Sanaz Lavasani is a soprano currently studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Margaret Humphrey-Clark.

Her love for music began at the age of seven when she received violin lessons with Morag Cooper and later joined the Stagecoach theatre arts school. By the age of 14 Sanaz was a member of the Tees Valley Youth Choir becoming one of their main soloists, performing in the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Albert Hall and touring around France, Belgium and Spain.

It was through Stagecoach and the Tees Valley Youth Choir that she was encouraged to become a solo singer, entering and winning a great number of competitions such as the Young Soprano of the Year and the Orange Music Festival Competition.

As well as competitions, Sanaz was put forward for the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, gaining a place at sixteen and also receiving a place at the Royal Northern College of Music junior school, which she attended every Saturday.

Beating over 100 applicants, Sanaz landed the part of Mina in Howard Goodall's recent musical A Winter's Tale, based on Shakespeare's play. The production was performed to packed houses at the Sage, Gateshead over seven days in December 2005. The musical was much praised for its gentle fusion of comedy, tragedy and romance.

Sanaz enjoys the capability of singing in a wide range of genres, not only classical. This list includes Jazz, soul, pop and musical theatre. She has a combined passion and determination to continue working through musical styles and hopes to one day become a worldwide performer.

In How Music Works, Sanaz performs Killing Me Softly With His Song by Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel.
