Chernobyl Strawberries by Vesna Goldsworthy

Vesna Goldsworthy, hailed as a vibrant new talent, was born in Belgrade and moved to England in the 1980s. Her memoir moves backwards and forwards in time to unfold memories from her childhood, episodes of history that have helped to create both her family and that of her English husband, and her feelings as her home country is torn apart by war.

Goldsworthy wrote the book when she learned she had cancer, because she wanted to leave a record for her son. Happily she survived, and critics are keen to hear more from her.

Festival Appearances: 31 May, 6.30pm
