Leaving for Mina
Passing the Holy Mosque in Mecca en-route to Mina
The Hajj officially kicked off today with more than two million pilgrims leaving Mecca for Mina in preparation for the Day of Standing at Arafat on Monday.

They'll spend the night in the Saudi desert just as millions have done in the past, but in considerably more comfortable accommodation, one of 57,000 air-conditioned tents.

Experience the start of the Hajj through our slideshows, 180 degree panorama and stories.

Two million plus Hajjis travelling from Mecca to Mina transformed a 25-minute journey into a five-hour one for some pilgrims. They travelled on buses, cars, bikes and by foot to reach the tent city of Mina.
