Dr Zaki Badawi is the unofficial leader of Britain's Muslims, in terms of Islam his word ranks alongside that of the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Chief Rabbi and the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Westminster.
The Egyptian-born Imam is the chair of the British Council of Imams and Mosques and established the Muslim College in West London.
Dr Badawi, now 80, spent 23 years at the Al-Azhar University in Egypt, and went on to teach and lead communities in Malaysia, Nigeria and Singapore.
In 1978 he came to Britain and was appointed the first Chief Imam and the Director of London's Regent's Park Mosque.
The Egyptian-born leader is celebrated for his attempts to establish a modern Islam that can fit comfortably with British values.
He believes there is no reason why British Muslims can't be followers of Islam and contented Britons.
