It's literally the best comedy show currently on
the box. Written by Ricky Gervais, who plays David Brent,
and Steve Merchant it's The Office. If you haven't
seen it SHAME ON YOU.
Are there any decent comedy sites out there?
SM: The
Comedy Lounge is a great site with a proper journalistic
approach, well-presented and very flattering about everything
we do.
RG: I agree. I also like Chortle,
which is very good for up-to-the-minute comedy news,
and it changes everyday.
What do you think makes a good comedy site?
SM: If you want opinions and reviews of comedy
then the above sites are intelligently written and well-informed.
Much better than those fan sites that just have things
like 'I once saw Ricky Gervais in a shop buying biscuits.'
RG: We don't tend to search out websites that
are themselves humorous, but apparently The
Onion and TV
Go Home are both brilliant.
SM: Rick, what's the point of recommending two
websites you can't even be bothered to look at?
RG: I'm a busy man.
SM: You miss my point. I'm not saying you should've
looked at them. I'm just saying how can you recommend
them if you've not seen them first hand?
RG: I've been asked for my opinion and I'll bloody
well give it.
SM: You're a trouper Rick.
Does the Internet provide a new way of promoting
comedy?
RG: No.
SM: Well, that's not strictly true. If they can
improve video streaming and you can watch live concert
footage or TV clips without waiting hours for them to
download then it will be an excellent way to promote
comedy.
RG: Yes then.
Are there other sites you think we should mention?
RG: Apparently The
Onion and TV
Go Home are both brilliant.
SM: I've heard that.
When does The Office return?
RG: In the autumn. We're writing it at the moment.
Anything you can tell us about it?
RG: Apparently it's brilliant.
SM: You don't need to say apparently in this
case. You know it is.
RG: Ooh, arrogant.
Anything you'd like us to plug while we're here?
RG: Apparently The Onion and TV Go....
SM: I'm gonna shoot off Rick.
