Pilgrims at the Shrine of Jalaluddin Rumi in Konya, Turkey. Jalal al-Din Rumi, a Persian philosopher and poet born 800 years ago, founded a Sufi order known in the West as the Whirling Dervishes. Their beautiful spinning dances are a form of meditation in which the movements symbolise different aspects of their beliefs and relationship to God.
