The Israel/Palestine conflict and the continuing Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza are a source of great bitterness for both Christian and Muslim Palestinians. The failure to achieve a just peace has bred hopelessness, heralding a growth in fundamentalism, Jewish as well as Muslim, as a new breed of religious leaders move into the political arena.
