The sites

The shortlist
Site nominations for the Big Art Project flooded in from all over the UK. Twelve sites were shortlisted and the selection panellists visited them all, knocking on doors, talking to local people and getting a feel for the area and each site's potential.

The final seven
The quality of the submissions was very high, and selecting the final seven sites which were given the go-ahead for a project was extremely difficult. The chosen sites are very diverse, but each had a uniquely compelling proposal.
