Jaume Plensa: The Crown Fountain

Jaume Plensa: The Crown Fountain
Back

The Crown Fountain (2004) in Millennium Park, Chicago, consists of two 15-metre (50ft) glass block towers at each end of a shallow reflecting pool. Each tower displays rolling LED video images of Chicago citizens. Every 12 minutes, each projected face appears to take on the function of a gargoyle as a water outlet in the screen gives the illusion of water spouting from their mouths. The collection of faces, Plensa's tribute to the people of Chicago, was taken from a cross-section of 1,000 residents (photo: Howard Ash)
