Antony Gormley: Angel of the North

| Back | ||
Erected in 1998, Antony Gormley's Angel of the North stands at 20 metres, high above the A1 south of Gateshead, welcoming visitors into the borough. Local people, including welders who put the giant Cor-ten steel structure together were involved in the project throughout. The sculpture has become a familiar and powerful icon of the north east of England (courtesy, Gateshead Council, ©the artist and Jay Joplin/White Cube). |
