Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Wrapped Reichstag

Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Wrapped Reichstag
Back    Next

Christo and Jeanne-Claude's Wrapped Reichstag in Berlin. Throughout art history, the use of fabric, forming folds, pleats and draperies, has fascinated artists. The use of fabric on the Reichstag follows the classical tradition. Fabric, like clothing or skin, is fragile and translates the unique quality of impermanence. For two weeks in 1995, the richness of the silvery fabric, shaped by blue ropes, created a flow of vertical folds highlighting the features of the imposing structure of the Reichstag. (photo: M.
