Born in Sittard, The Netherlands in 1959, Rineke Djikstra is perhaps best known for her portraits of male and female Israeli soldiers and those that she took of new mothers immediately after they had given birth. Djikstra studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, from 1981 to 1986 and has exhibited her work internationally since 1994. Her work was shown in the Venice Biennale in 1997 and was included in Tate's internationally acclaimed 2003 touring exhibition Cruel and Tender: The Real in the Twentieth-Century Photograph.

There are four works in the Channel 4 collection by Rineke Djikstra, allUntitled they form part of the series If/Then made in 1998.
