Disgust is a powerful response that protects us from danger but also carries its own dangers. The Channel 4 series, Anatomy of Disgust, explores that response and the uses — positive and negative — to which it can be put.

The first programme looks at the science and psychology of what disgusts different people and why.
The second programme examines how disgust is manipulated by social, political and religious systems to downgrade, exclude and even exterminate particular groups.

The third programme explores the work of artists who attempt to confront the gap between the sanitised façade and the dirty reality of our world.

First shown: 15, 22, 29 August 2000.
