40 Years Out

Studio debate show

Wed 25 July 2007 11pm
Marking the Channel 4 season of films, this special debate programme is hosted by journalist and commentator David Aaronovitch.

The panel Matthew Parris, Paul Sinha, Mark Simpson, Simon Fanshawe, Julie Bindel, former police officer Brian Paddick and gay rapper QBoy look at how it feels to be gay in modern Britain, how far attitudes have evolved since 1967, and how gay and bisexual men and women view themselves today.

Non-televised debate: Homosexuality and the Media: How Far Have We Come?

Chaired by Rhona Cameron, the panel guests Stephen K Amos (comedian and TV presenter), Qboy (rapper), Lord Alli (Labour peer) and Jan Tomalin (Channel 4) discussed how representation of homosexuality on screen has changed over the years.

The panel and audience discussed the extent to which the media helps to broaden minds and push boundaries. Everyone agreed that things have changed, but that there is more to be done in future.
