Emerging British documentary filmmakers take inspiration from 'the bicycle' to win Channel 4 and ITN SOURCE competition.
Channel 4, ITN SOURCE and BRITDOC have announced the winners of their new documentary competition, which asked emerging filmmakers to take inspiration from the ITN SOURCE to pitch an idea for a short doc on the theme 'bicycle'.
Four winning pitches – which range from the inspirational to the humorous to the historical – were made into 3-minute films by the winners, who each received the budget, equipment and support to produce them.
The completed documentaries were shown on Channel 4's 3 Minute Wonder slot and were screened in summer 2006 to the most influential players in international documentary film at the inaugural BRITDOC 06 event, to which the four filmmakers received a special invite.
The overall winner of the competition – as voted for by the public – was announced on Friday 28th July at BRITDOC 06.
"The standard of the pitches was so high, but the four finalists really shone through with such unique and imaginative treatments," comments Kate Vogel, Commissioning Editor for 3 Minute Wonder, Channel 4. "I can't wait to see how these films take shape."
"These four films really took up the archive angle to the competition with diverse and creative proposals," comments Chris O'Hearn, Commercial Director, ITN SOURCE. "It was fantastic to see such different ideas for footage from historical to conceptual to inspirational."
