On both Channel 4 and More 4 we need to bring new voices and ideas which contribute to the diversity of democratic debate in Britain. We will never be eccentric but we will always be radical. We will say what others dare not. Our programmes will often be uncomfortable.
Our definition of "authored journalism" is wide. For example, journalist and film-maker Sorious Samura worked as an orderly in a Zambian hospital to try to bring home to the viewer what it feels like to be Living with Aids. Controversially, he was forthright in his criticisms of African men’s sexual practices.
You should ideally have a clear idea of the proposed author when you approach us. For example we commissioned a programme in support of marriage which worked because its author was not a right-wing hack but Bob Geldof. We are looking for controversial ideas from unexpected places. We are here to say the unsayable.
We are sometimes interested in celebrities with something to say - but they have to be people the viewer would take seriously.
These films will usually be one hour in length. We aim to get an audience of at least one million on Mondays at 8pm.
We are always looking for strong younger voices, female voices and voices which reflect the diversity of Britain.
