Welcome to The News and Current Affairs Department - the department which never closes and welcomes everyone with a good story!
News and current affairs is at the heart of Channel Four's role as a public service broadcaster and has been ever since the Channel was launched in 1982.
Our departmental output is expanding all the time.
We broadcast forty one hour Dispatches a year in the heart of prime time. That is the key strand we seek proposals for.
But our new director of television Julian Bellamy would also like us to commission one-off singles and series. And, from now on, will run a couple of seasons each year. So we are actively seeking new current affairs thinking.
And we would like to hear from you if you have ideas for presenter-led current affairs programming which, while having serious intent, shows a bit of humour too and will appeal to younger viewers.
When you pitch ideas, please include what the online content could be.
We can commission ideas which are online only . We are particularly seeking ideas which work just as well on-screen and online and would love more web-only ideas.
We’re currently looking for ideas covering the US presidential election and the British general election. Please submit proposals online.
