Q: What is the shortest run you would commission in daytime?
A: Volume is very important for the daytime schedules. Not just because viewers are used to making regular appointments to view in their day, but to make the budgets go further. The minimum run we would commission would be 10 episodes although the need for these shows is very limited at the moment. Ideally the format should be one which would allow for an episode run in the hundreds

Q: Are you interested in 30 minute or 60 minute ideas?
A: Actually 45 minuters are working very well for us at the moment but we are open to ideas that don’t fall in this time-slot.

Q: Is there any scope in your schedules for weekly shows?
A: No. We are only interested in shows that can play daily.

Q: How do you pilot ideas for breakfast and daytime?
A: It is very rare for us to commission a series off the back of just a paper pitch. It does happen but the more common practice if we like the sound of an idea is to do some kind of funded development. This can either be in the form of a taster tape (we would pay anything from £2K to £15K for a non-transmittable short tape that might test perhaps some characters or presenters or some aspect of the format) or a fully formatted pilot episode (this can be either transmittable or non-transmittable and can be funded at, or very occasionally above, our tariff prices).

Q: What kind of Presenters are you after in daytime?
A: At the moment we are more interested in the idea rather than who is the presenter. The presenter should then feel like a natural extension to the format. We are looking for presenters who can hold their own in either live or pre-recorded situations and who have cross-generational appeal. We are proud of our high-profile stable of talent and would only consider presenters who would compliment our incredible line-up.

Q: Is there any scope for commissions to run across daytime and peak time?
A: Deal! Yes, we have already had some success in this are with Come Dine With Me, Deal Or No Deal and A Place In The Sun: Home Or Away. We are keen to find more shows that have the ability to straddle daytime and peak.

Q: Do you need to be a big Indy with previous daytime experience to get a commission?
A: No. We are driven solely by the power of the idea. It is important to have the right "behind the camera" talent working on daytime series - people who have the focus, imagination and stamina to deliver high volume, lower cost shows - but we can help smaller Indies find these people if they don't have access to them already, all of that is fixable if we like the idea. The idea, after all, is king.
