We are looking for a variety of new entertainment shows for 2007 and beyond – they all need to be in the fine tradition of all the greatest Channel 4 entertainment programmes……..only better.
It’s more important for us to commission programmes that some people really love and feel passionate about rather than shows that offend no one and tend towards blandness. Realistically, at different times in the schedule, we are looking for different things reflecting a variety of editorial tones veering from the mainstream to the avant-garde but at Channel 4 even our more mainstream commissions need to be distinctive and modern and never derivative or mediocre.
We want shows that are new and exciting, memorable and talked-about and generally unmissable. We want to take risks. We want to invest in new talent. We want to stir things up. We want to innovate and of course, most importantly, we want to entertain.
Our best commissions will be interesting modern ideas that capture the imagination of a young audience and cause reverberations within TV and culture as a whole. They will often be programmes that would be hard to imagine on any other channel.
We are mainly looking for stuff to play on Friday nights from 9.00pm onwards, other special events that could be one off or stripped.
And importantly, all of the stuff below should only serve as guidelines. Often a great idea will be one that a fantastic and creative producer feels passionate about rather than something that we have specifically asked for – so read what are looking for but don’t be afraid to surprise us.
