Q: What do you want?
We tend to focus on sitcoms (narrative comedies) and broken comedy formats (sketch shows & performer led vehicles). We're looking for truly original ideas as well as exciting new talent to be in our programmes.

Q: How should I submit my idea?
A: Please don't just send in loose treatments and one page proposals. In order to fully gauge the writer's voice, humour, originality and ability we need to see some sample script.

Q: What is an ideal submission?
A: For sitcoms - one copy of your script (about 30 pages for a half hour) with short synopses of five or six further episodes and a covering letter briefly explaining what the series is about. For performer led ideas – proposal with sample ideas and a showreel of the attached talent.

Q: How do I send it?
A: Please do NOT submit proposals to the COMEDY department using the online submission system. You must send your script by post to Script submissions, Comedy Department, Channel 4, 124 Horseferry Road, London, SW1P 2TX. Due to the high volume of scripts received, they sometimes take longer than 28 days to process. Please ensure that you have read the Comedy editorial and FAQ sections of this site before submitting your script.

Q: Can I come in and chat about what you’re looking for?
A: Unfortunately the pressure placed on the Commissioning Editors' time by programmes that are already in production means that they do not have time for general chats. However, the assistants work very closely with the Commissioning Editors and can answer most of the questions you may have so they should be your first point of contact. Meetings with the Commissioning Editors will be arranged only once there is something concrete to discuss, so send your ideas in first.

Q: I’m a performer and I want to get into TV - how can I alert you to what I do?
A: Your agent should send us a reel of your performance or invite us to a live gig.
