Chat Ed : Hello everyone and welcome to our second live chat of the evening with Dean Lennox Kelly who plays Kev in Shameless!
Dean Lennox Kelly : Hello, Kevin Alan Ball here - proud to be Shameless! Let's 'ave it! Man City 3, Norwich City 2.
Joe Hardcastle : Hello
Nikki : HIYA
pebbles : hey dean
Nick Cornwell : whats it like playing kev?
Dean Lennox Kelly : It's a joy. I waited a long time for a character like this to come along. Always wanted to wear cheap gold, a 70s wig and a 70s chest piece and get paid for it.
stampede : Is it tiring playing a nymphomaniac?? Lol
Dean Lennox Kelly : stampede - what do you think? Exhausting. But remember, I'm only acting.
mrblister : what else have you been in?
Kaz : What have you been in before?
Dean Lennox Kelly : Oh God... erm.. Border Café, Mike Basset: England Manager, Maisie Raine with the mighty Pauline Quirke, City Central and Death Watch.
Stuart : Did you get on all right with your co-stars?
LilRomeoandKenzieFan : do you and any of the other cast members socialise in real life?
Dean Lennox Kelly : I get on with them all great. It's like an extended family. We do socialise, but it's also six months of filming together so you also get a bit sick of the sight of each other. I get on better with myself anyway. I make myself laugh.
Colin : do you think Shameless is an accurate depiction of life in inner city UK?
Dean Lennox Kelly : Well, I think it's an accurate picture of where it's based in Manchester although it probably seems quite over the top - it's quite true.
fionaluvzlip : what is your favourite episode so far?
rosieandcherie : whats your fav episode?
Dean Lennox Kelly : I have to be biased and say it was the one where Veronica and me adopted the child. It was nice to behave like a father to a small boy. Also when we got married in series one - that was great, I’m not married and don't have children...yet.
Alexjohn : Dean are you a mancunian?
stacey : Do you come from Manchester?
Dean Lennox Kelly : I don't, I come from Litham St Annes - a posh little seaside town near Blackpool, where we get out of the bath to go for a wee. Although people tend to think I am from Manchester now so I kinda go along with it.
steve : shameless is one of the best programs out today on tv how do you get in
Dean Lennox Kelly : Just through my agent. I went along for an audition. I hadn't worked for about 15 months and I was due a turn of luck. I too think it's the best piece of TV at the moment (along with Des and Mel).
Lucy : I luv Des and Mel!!!
chez : Can it be embarrassing shooting the sex scenes with veronica
Dean Lennox Kelly : Sometimes, but I think we're quite fortunate that they are comedy sex scenes. I think it would be more embarrassing to be trying to be sexy with slow, sensual music playing in the background. We have a laugh most of the time, plus there's ten people in the room.
ju : Do you get nervous when you have to get your kit off
Dean Lennox Kelly : I'm used to it now ju. I've done it quite a few times and most people don't want to see my bits anyway so... once you've seen one you've seen them all.
Sophie : which character are you most like of screen
Dean Lennox Kelly : Probably Kev actually, apart from the bad jewellery. We share a love of football and the need for a good woman, although I'm not really into motorbikes more into flowers - my favourites are stargazer lilies.
Bridget : aawwww
jen : prefer jasmine!
Dean Lennox Kelly : I am also quite partial to a face pack and a manicure which I'm sure Kev wouldn't be happy about.
kira : does marty ever bust out laughing doing the head thing?
Dean Lennox Kelly laughs
Jade : martys hilarious
Dean Lennox Kelly : Not Marty, but the rest of us do because most of the time we don't know what he's going to say and when it's going to happen, but Jack, who plays Marty, he's quite professional and always stays in character.
Stu n Zo : Do you get recognised more in second series ?
Dean Lennox Kelly : Yes and no. My hair is different now and I've had a beard for the last three months because I was doing another job. It also depends where you are. I think when the first series came out I was aware of people paying more attention or pointing and saying things, but I'm a little more used to it now so I don't really notice.
bARRY NI : whats your most embarrassing moment on tv?
Dean Lennox Kelly : Filming episode one of the first series when I had to lay with my legs at twenty to four, naked, with five people in the room, all of them being men. That was quite embarrassing to shoot and to watch.
House of Wrong : Is Dean Lennox Kelly your real name or your stage name?
Dean Lennox Kelly : Dean Kelly is my real name. The Lennox is my mother's maiden name because there was already a Dean Kelly in the acting world. He's a children's entertainer, specialising in finger puppets. I met him once at a wedding. We didn't get on too well. I was sorely tempted to wait for him in the shadows outside after the wedding but that was a few years ago and I always wanted a double-barrelled name anyway. Boy done good.
LilRomeoandKenzieFan : what’s the one question you hate being asked?
rachel13 : That one?
Dean Lennox Kelly : “What have you been in before?” It's kind of embarrassing to tell everyone what you've been in and then they still say 'Oh right, I've not seen any of that' so they still don't know who you are. People only know who you are if you're in The Bill or EastEnders. Mind you I suppose it is watched by 12 million people so...
Jade : Dean you make hairy chests sexy again
Dean Lennox Kelly laughs
philby : If you were on a desert island what 3 items would you take?
Dean Lennox Kelly : A football, a record player and a record.
crazycatlady : which record?
Dean Lennox Kelly : The record I'd take would be Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On. But then I'd have to change the football for a lady – my girlfriend.
Janie : What's your favourite band/artist at the moment?
Dean Lennox Kelly : A singer called Ray Lamontane - he's a folk/soul singer from America. But I'm also very into the Keane album.
JayJay : Keane rock!
GayGuy! : Good taste.
Yianna : i love keane!
Jade : haha
anne : Do you really support man city?
Dean Lennox Kelly : No. Liverpool! But I have a soft spot for Man City - always have. If they would have made Kev a Man Utd fan I would have fought it fiercely. I don't think I could have done it - I'm serious.
DaYna : omg yay Liverpool
Dean Lennox Kelly : Yay!
rachel13 : liverpool are ace....marmite or not?
Dean Lennox Kelly : Love Marmite. Especially with peanut butter. The first place I ever had it was in the canteen at Channel 4, funnily enough.
julie schofield : yyeeeuch
Dean Lennox Kelly : It puts hairs on me chest.
swanseajack : yuk gross
Annabelle : How much input do you get into your character?
Dean Lennox Kelly : None. Apart from maybe a piece of clothing or something you think you might drink. The writing is so good and the characters are so well written that everything is there. You can maybe change the lines sometimes but on the whole if it ain't broke don't try to fix it. Do ya get me? Brother?
jon boy : is there going to be a series 3
Dean Lennox Kelly : There is, yes.
joe edgell : can you really pull a pint
Alicia : Dean what's your favourite beer?
Dean Lennox Kelly : Yes, I used to be a barman many moons ago - coming from Blackpool that's all the work you can get, although I did once work at the Elvis Presley Centre in Blackpool. Favourite beer - I'm a big Guinness fan and Leffe - a Belgian beer, 6%. You don't need many.
swigger909 : who is the biggest laugh while on set?
Paul : What's the best part about working with the shameless crew?
Dean Lennox Kelly : Me!
Psykoman : lol
Dean Lennox Kelly : No, everyone is great on set, Maggie O'Neil who plays Sheila is particularly mad; madder than her character. It's not work, it really isn't. We're all aware of how lucky we are to be doing something so brilliant. It beats working on Judge John Deed. Can you imagine all that courtroom, all that wood - day in day out? I might retire after Shameless, I don't want it to end ever really.
wilko : what’s ure next project?
Dean Lennox Kelly : Yeah but they are all top secret. Nah only joking, I've just done a small part in a film with Tim Robbins, called The Secret Life of Words. Also I've just done The Brief on ITV. - bit of serious drama playing a train driver, I know it sounds funny but it's serious, honest. My biggest project at the moment is doing up my house - I've no kitchen and no bathroom so I'm on take-aways and washing in the sink in the downstairs toilet which isn't pleasant especially as I'm supposed to be a TV star with a lifestyle to go with it.
phil_rickard_is_sham : Thanks for your time dean, I know you're busy, but thanks for answering one of my Q's, keep up the good work dude!
nancy jo : nice to meet you
Alison : Nice chatting to you, Bye Bye x x x
keano : cya kev, ur a legend
Vic : youre fit!
Alicia : Bye dean
Jade : cya hairy
Martyn : bye kev
Dean Lennox Kelly : Thank you for your time. See you for series three and four and who knows, five, six and seven. Shameless forever! Now get to bed.
Elliot : love you
