Joel Edgerton : Hello, this is Joel Edgerton here. Fresh out of bed in Sydney, how are you all doing?
Cactus_Jack : great performance tonight Joel, were filming those scenes difficult?
Joel Edgerton : Thank you Cactus Jack. It was ironically for me the most enjoyable episode to shoot.
Vikkie : I CRIED TONIGHT!
tim : i cried too
southy : same here
Jenni : I did too!
Joel Edgerton : A lot of the scenes I found quite difficult to shoot and that's why I found it a great challenge.
ipatstone : Hi Joel, Was tonight's episode your toughest acting job?
Joel Edgerton : I'd have to say it rates amongst the toughest piece of work that I have ever done. Strangely enough, in 7 years, I've only dealt with that kind of subject matter on stage before.
stuart : I'd like to know what role have you most enjoyed playing, what role would you most like to play and who would you most like to work with, cheers!
Joel Edgerton : Good question! The most exciting role was playing the Prince in Henry IV and subsequently the King of England in Henry V. The role I'd most like to play is one that is coming up for me in a script that my good friend has written for a film. The person I'd most like to work with is, male, Anthony Hopkins and female, I'd have to say Meryl Streep.
DARREN KIRKY : TELL US MORE!!
Joel Edgerton : It's a story called Powderworks. It's about 2 brothers living in a beach town and is about men coming to terms with their draw towards violence.
blue : Is Will a good example of the stereotypical Aussie male, and are you anything like him ? If so, fancy meeting up if you ever come over to the U.K ??!
talia : What similarities do you share with the character Will?
Joel Edgerton : Will is not necessarily an Aussie stereotypical male. But you would find plenty of him around. I am quite a lot like Will. Perhaps just dress a little differently. And I don't drink as much beer!
Superchicken : What other acting jobs have you done, anything we would know over here in the uk?
Joel Edgerton : Films that I've been involved in are: Prise, Erskinville Kings and Sample People and the soon coming Star Wars: Episode II. I'm just about to work with Caroline Aherne too for a couple of weeks out here.
Ratcat : How does the experience of filming episodic TV compare with the set of a big, special effects movie?
brian_spence : What is your role in Star Wars?
Joel Edgerton : Shooting episodic TV is quite similar to shooting an Australian movie. Shooting a big special effects film isn't extremely different to looking at a set. Everything just seems bigger. But once action is called, it really is the same thing. In Star Wars I play a young Uncle Owen, Luke Skywalker's Uncle from Episode IV.
wtm : Sama death was really sad. But what is next for Will if he recovers?
Joel Edgerton : Interesting. I think Sam's death is a difficult thing for Will to overcome. And I won't give anything away but hopefully he draws something positive to take him into the future.
David Millar : Is the Secret Life Series we are seeing in the Uk the only made so far? Any plans for more?
Joel Edgerton : Yes the first series, which is what you guys are watching, has been completed - all 26 episodes. We begin shooting the second series in late November this year.
Andrew : I spent 10 months in Australia, and without being rude the quality of home made Aussie TV was poor. What makes 'The Secret Life of Us' so different and do you think it will lead to better quality Aussie Drama shows?
Joel Edgerton : The key to The Secret Life of Us is great writing and well drawn characters and a good cast and general enthusiasm by everyone involved to not make bollocks! And yes I hope other shows, good shows, get created.
Vikki : I feel that you played the grieving boyfriend brilliantly tonight, how did you actually come to prepare for such challenging scenes?
Joel Edgerton : Thank you.
Vikki : :-)
Joel Edgerton : What I loved about the script for this episode was that Will didn't deal with his grief in a typical way but spiralled into confusion and anger sparked from guilt. I prepared a lot of the work in that episode by just sitting with those thoughts and really regretting that Jess Gower (who plays Sam) was going. And that was pretty sad.
ChurchieLaFemme : You play a very convincing drunk...any method acting involved?
Joel Edgerton laughs
Joel Edgerton : Not that particular day!
Cactus_Jack : Question from my girlfriend Joel; are you single? I hope you're not or she is gonna be on the next flight to Oz!
Tracey : have you got a girlfriend?
Joel Edgerton chuckles
Joel Edgerton : Ahem. Interesting liberal relationship you have there Cactus jack! I am single. But to make things easy, I won't give her my address.
fliss : woo hoo!!
iccle cutie : whoohoo! : )
raebear : How did you get the part in the series, was there a tough selection process or were you just the right man for the job, being a jedi knight and all that? ;)
Joel Edgerton laughs
Joel Edgerton : I had to audition for the role. I think the producers were hoping that I would do a good job because they kind of had me in mind for it. Unfortunately I knew that beforehand, which puts on a little bit of extra pressure. And I left my light-sabre at home that day.
reece wendy : have you had any hollywood offers? and if so would you leave australia and move there??
Joel Edgerton : Yes! I'd definitely work in the US. But I'd never leave Australia for too long. As yet no offers, but perhaps my work on the next Star Wars will help that.
stuart : yours is the most 'defined' character, in the very beginning. I think Will has the strongest storyline on the show. Do you ever suggest storylines?
Joel Edgerton : I've always been satisfied with the writers' plotting of the character. Only once did I step in to discuss where a particular episode was taking Will. This is an episode that you guys haven't seen yet though.
Chat Ed : Our half hour with Joel is nearly up now, so last two questions thanks...
YSL : Joel, any plans to go into the music industry like Kylie Minogue?
HelenF : You're not going to release a record are you? Any ideas of a pop career!!!
Joel Edgerton laughs
Joel Edgerton : Well I would love to start a boy band and while I fancy myself as a brilliant dancer, my vocal skills are far from ready to be unleashed on this world! I'll leave that to the likes of Kylie and Dido.
Chat Ed : And lastly:
Harry Wobblebottom : Is this series going to end with a cliffhanger or is it self contained?
Joel Edgerton : Ah ha!
Gavpowell : he's ending the chat ona cliffhanger
Joel Edgerton : No cyclones, gun-shots in the night, or 50 car pile-ups. But...contained is right.
Srag : Thank-goodness
Joel Edgerton : Perhaps a contained cliffhanger of emotional resonance.
Chat Ed : That's it! Thanks for coming, Joel, that was great - and thanks for all your questions folks!
Jacqueline : Excellent series, look forward to remaining hooked for eternity. Congrat's to you and the rest of the cast & crew for such superb acting and a fantastic production. Cheers me dear!
reece wendy : bye joel! we love ya xxx
Cactus_Jack : well, thanks for taking the time out for us Brits, Joel
DARREN KIRKY : I'M GONNA CRY!!!
Ross : Big up respect yourself!!!
Andrew : Cheers Joel :)
Vikkie : THANKYOU JOEL
Joel Edgerton : Thank you very much and if typed words on a computer screen could do my words service I'm so stoked that you're all taking to the show. Hopefully I'll be visiting real soon. Keep enjoying and thank you very much!xxx
Joel Edgerton leaves the room
Srag : oh - how sweet
