Richard and Judy - Richard and Judy

Richard told us what a great Prime Minister he would be!

Chat Ed : Welcome to this afternoon's RICHARD and JUDY chat!

Judy : Hi everyone thanks very much for wanting to chat to us tonight.

Ewmick : heya!

Judy : Our only problem at the moment is that it has started to absolutely blizzard in North London.

John Sefton : Hi Judy!!!

Judy : And we have to get home.

boo! : hello!

Judy : So we may have to cut this a little bit short!

Richard : Hi everybody...Fire away...

SnOwY_ChLoE : I AM SNOWED IN!

Hogden : Do you have a flat above the studio for days when it snows?

Judy laughs

boo! : its all sowing in manchester!!!

rose : theres no snow here :(

ElectrO : Aren’t you rich enough to own a helicopter so you don’t get snowed in? :)

Richard : That's a brilliant idea - why haven't we thought of this before? Although maybe we should just doss down in Judy's dressing room for the night.

anne marie : snowin in stoke 2!
elvisbarmy : lots of snow in Coventry

Judy : There is a small matter of children at home, so I don't really think we could do that anyway but thanks for the suggestion.

Hogden : nice puppies Judy
Maryc : I'd recommend Richard and Judy rehome puppies from an animal shelter - have they thought of this?

Richard laughs

Judy : Oh dear heheh. To be honest this all kind of suddenly happened when our colleague Amanda bought her puppy into the studio and I absolutely melted. We haven't really got any further than that. We won't be getting it before Autumn because we have loads to do before then.

Jo : Do you have any other animals?
chrissie : i think you should give a vote for naming YOUR PUPPY judy

Richard : No. We had a cat once but it was impossible to house train and after six months we gave it to someone who apparently managed to house train it in three days. We've had goldfish and hamsters, but so far no doggies - I think we will be getting two after the summer break. Actually I am quite looking forward to it and my son is deliriously happy.

Judy chuckles at chrissie, I don't know if I am quite that democratic!

Richard : Actually, this could be a really good way of running our lives from now on - just ask our viewers to decide everything for us! Let's make a start - what shall we have for tea tonight?

lakelandlass : pasta!
jenee : curry!
pippa : pizza
John Sefton : Puppies

Judy : Tell you what, we'll have all of them!

Matthew : Didn't you worry that the naked rambler would expose himself?
Robert Elliott : Judy seemed really embarrassed when the naked rambler was in ,,,was she

Judy : Well he sort of did actually. We shot him from a very careful angle, which mercifully allowed the viewer not to see the worst.

Richard : Anyway, even if he had gone mad and waved his willy at the cameras, it's not exactly going to cause questions in the House - it's only a willy!

Rachael : lol!

Judy : Although Jerry Hall was a bit shocked when he walked past her, or should I say swanned past her naked in the corridor!

rebecca uk : what did you both think off the girl selling her virginity
JohnsGirl : Being a student from Bristol University myself, the same as the girl offering to well her virginity, I have to say I find it very embarrassing!! Do you think she'll really go through with it?
Matt_k : its disgusting!!! :-S
elaine : i dont think she should

Richard : Well, I feel rather sorry for her because it seemed to both of us - although she denied this - that what she is really doing is taking a pop at her parents. They have a policy of insisting that their children fend for themselves once they have reached 18 and won't give her a penny for tuition fees. I suspect this is her way of getting back at them and yes, I think she will go through with it.

phillip : what does richard and judy think about the down grading of cannabis, from a class B drug to a class C drug , and what affect do they think it will have on society

Judy : My personal feeling is that legalising drugs is in fact the only way to combat the horrific crime element which is without doubt the worst aspect of illegal drugs in this country. I think it's hopeless to try and convince a lot of young people that they shouldn't smoke cannabis, as it's already a large part of their lifestyle. But I do think that not everybody should smoke it - we have heard of many reports of psychosis in kids who use it regularly.

Richard : I agree with Judy. You'll never get the government of the day to decriminalise drug use. We have met senior politicians who privately agree that it would reduce street crime and robberies at a stroke - but the political cost is just unthinkable. If it were down to us we would have a joint programme of decriminalisation that would totally stuff the dealers and also introduce a massive public education.

JohnsGirl : I read Brick Lane when it first came out and thoroughly enjoyed it, I think you will too!
pamela : how did you choose the books for the Club?
DAZZLE : a joint programme. very good!!

Judy : Basically we ask publishers to submit names of books which would be a) modern (published in the last year) and b) not necessarily books which would be literary classics but that would be a good read - a really gripping story. They did that and we at our office and our research team ploughed through them and got them down to the ten that we got.

lakelandlass : its inspired me to start reading again
cathia : choose 'blackbird' by jennifer lauck

Judy : Brick Lane is very highly regarded, but we really wanted to find something for everyone.

Richard : Our panel ploughed through nearly 400 books and there was really energised debate over the shortlist.

Rachael : me too! has anyone ever read 'Fire Spirit'?
Jax : lovely bones is a terrific book

Richard : We are really happy with it, and blown away by the public response - bookshops are selling out and having to re-order already. So we are really proud to be behind the first ever TV book club in Britain so thanks to everyone who joined it.

jenee : i think you should do children’s books too
Jitterbug : is there any chance of a longer segment for the book club, or twice a week on the same book?
Claire Bates : The book club is a great idea - whose was it?
jo badby : I haven't read a book for ages but I am now reading 'The lovely Bones' and I can't put it down

Judy : We had to recognise that not all our viewers will be as interested in the book club so we obviously have to provide a variety so that nobody feels neglected. This series has been such a success I have no doubt that we will be extending it.

Richard : The idea was Amanda Ross's who runs the production company that makes our show. Everyone told her it couldn't be done - in fact we were told that when we were on This Morning - but she never gives up on a good idea and she made it happen. Full marks to her.

joeds : i would love to be a writer, have you thought about programmes regarding certain careers and how to get into them?

Richard : That's a good idea. Could be the starting point of a mini-series on our show. We'll give that one some thought.

vickie : richard reminds of of my dad....it's scary

Judy laughs, oh dear

Richard : Vickie you omit to mention what your Father looks like, his age, and most importantly his personal habits.

Sophi : Who do you think is going to win I'm a celebrity, and do you care?? I previously had no time for Jordan (just jealous probably!) but now I think she is great! Your opinions please......
Matthew : Judy, Kerry Mcfadden is NOT a scouser, she's from Warrington, don't insult us!
Stephen Cooke : How come you said that Kerry Katona was from liverpool when she is from warrington
Donna Armstrong Fr : Dear Richard and Judy, kerry macfadden does not come from liverpool, she comes from warrington

Judy : Yeah I agree with you about Jordan and yes I do care because it's a fantastic programme with the best line up yet. For my money I think it will be between Jordan and Johnny Rotten and Lord Brockett.

monica : Kerry now lives in Warrington but was boren in Liverpool

Richard : Jordan was on our show two or three weeks ago, and afterwards in our hospitality room it was obvious that Jordan is really the alter-ego of Katie Price who we both thought was a really sweet, charming and clearly intelligent single mother and tough as old boots.

jo badby : Kerry seems much brighter today and has stopped moaning

Richard : I predicted that she would do well in our column.

Judy : Excuse me, so did I on our show!

BenDean : I agree with Judy. - Those 3 do have the best personalities!
Maryc : Would you consider going on 'I'm a celebrity...'?

Richard : Ah yes, yes.

Kayleigh : Richard and Judy - would you consider going on 'I'm a celebrity, get me out of here'?

Richard : She is a certainty for me

Yvonne Collins : Row is starting????

Judy : Under no circumstances whatsoever Kayleigh unlike poor Kerry McFadden I know my limitations well in advance!

Wy nn : Don't do it Richard and Judy for that way madness lies.
kerry_rules : Kerry to win!!!
JamesBeattie : Razor to win!

Richard : For some reason, which I'm sure has sinister root to it, these programmes keep asking me to go on them. I keep saying no because as Russell Grant said the other day, if you do, you are either on the way down, or on the way up, and hopefully we're neither - just sort of bobbing around in the same place really.

Penfold : Do R&J think the LOTR deserved all the nominatons it got? Would they have suggested any other films?

Richard : Absolutely. I thought the third film was a masterpiece and a million times better than the first.

Judy : For me absolutely not. But to be fair I haven't seen the third film. The first was enough for me! I've never been a fan.

lulubelle : i love lotr

Judy : I found the first film boring beyond belief.

AdamUK : Richard and Jusy..how do u feel about the 'top up fees' issue passed yes'day?
snoopfroggyfrog : i am a single parent and a student nurse now deliberating the fees that students pay - do richard and judy agree or not with the university fees?
Emma Preston : top up fees bad idea by Tony -what do you think?

Judy : Theoretically I loathe the idea of it because I myself got to grammar school only because of the old direct grant system - my parents could never have afforded it. So, if I hadn't had that grant I wouldn't have had the education I got which to me is a horrific thought. But I do realise that the system needs reform and I do think that the concessions announced about top up fees are probably the right way to go, but emotionally I really dislike the idea.

Richard : Ditto.

janey : Would Gordon Brown make a good leader for the Labour party?

Richard : Yes. He comes from the same political stable as his old friend (!) Tony Blair and apart from the odd divergence they both sing from the same hymn sheet. I think he'd make a rather dour Prime Minister though and I think that Tony Blair still has that important razzle dazzle them side which seems to be a crucial component of the successful modern politician.

Judy : Rather like the 'I'm a Celebrity, Get me Out of Here!' vote my money is on Jordan and Tony!

paul brighton : iwant jordan as next pm!
jamesL : I want Boris Johnson to be prime minister
joeds : richard would you make a good prime minister?

Judy laughs!

Richard : Thank you Joe, for your intelligent question which has just caused guffaws of derisive laughter from all our colleagues in the room!

Mackster : judy could be the next thatcher!!!

Richard : I shall maintain my dignity and confirm my long held belief that I would be the best PM this country has ever had. I thank you.

mayall : no shes too compassionate

Judy chuckles
Judy : Quite right too!

Sean : Have any guests ever really annoyed you, over things they said, opinions or just thier attitude?

Richard : Umm...Well, the world of celebrity guests is a turbulent one and you have to make allowances. But Enrique Iglesias is, let's just say, a tricky guy to have in the studio. He is unbelievably sensitive about any comparisons to his father and is constantly threatening to walk off the set if anyone even mentions the old boy's name. It's all a bit of a pain actually.

LOvEaBlE : i think you should mention some of the questions on this chat on your program
PhilJane : When do you expect to get home tonight ?
Maryc : I'm in North London and it's deep snow but the traffic is moving...

Judy : Last January when there was a kind of one off snow burst over north London, where we live, they didn't grit the roads and it took us six hours to travel seven miles - a journey that normally takes us around 35 minutes. If it happens again today I will be personally seeking a Lady Macbeth style moment with the man in charge of our gritting at the local council.

Richard : On which note. We depart.

mike tighe : its snowing outside now! :)
Bagpuss : air kiss to you both
julie : thank you for your time, love your show, will be watching tomorrow
d12345 : Drive safely!

Richard : Or to borrow the final known words of Titus Oates, 'I am just going out into the snow, gentlemen. I may be some time...'

Judy : Hopefully we'll see you tomorrow, and many, many thanks for all your questions tonight.

Jacqui : Safe journey R and J!
Reena : We luv you both!
Emma Louise : good bye

Judy : We always love talking to you and more than anything I hope you continue to enjoy the book club - because we love it.

Richard leaves the room
Judy leaves the room
