Relocation, Relocation - Phil and Kirstie

Just where did Kirstie get that Star Trek phone from? We found out!

Chat Ed : Welcome to this evening's RELOCATION, RELOCATION chat with presenters PHIL and KIRSTIE!

Phil : Hi everyone!

MikeG : Hey Phil
Ruth : Hi Phil
keef : My girlfriend loves you :o)
amy and sarah : where is kirstie?

Kirstie : Hello!

Phil : Hope you enjoyed the show. It may not have appeared like it but we actually had a lot of fun making that. It was a beautiful part of the country - shame they blew the budget!

douglas : great show tonight
Mastrap : Phil, you looked stressed at times ;)
Fred : Do you get frustrated with some of the people on the programme who ask for one thing and then when you find it- they go and say that they want something entirely different?
Scoops : How frustrating is it when you put all that effort in and the people take no notice?
andy : Did the guys get very frustrated with the couple on tonight episode, them seemed very diplomatic at the end!

Kirstie : Part of the process involves people changing their minds It helps when they tell us that they've realised they want something different.

Phil : Our work is to try and make that process evolve quickly. Maybe we didn't do it quickly enough with tonight's couple.

Kirstie : And yes, occasionally we do want to ring people's necks!

marrio : Phil and Kirstie - weren't they sooo annoying in changing their minds and not taking you advice
James : Ohh Phil, please be honest, was it the show from hell??

Kirstie laughs

Phil : No it wasn't the show from hell. Actually what happened was that Henrik was a real joker.

Kirstie : He had a filthy sense of humour! And every time the director would put the camera on she'd say “Would you two behave!”

Phil : So they came across as really straight.

Kirstie : But we had such a laugh and spent far too much time mucking around.

Phil : It was a very tough brief though.

Kirstie : And watching the show tonight it did remind me that they did make very radical changes.

Lily : wise move - go 35k over budget to have no garden and be on a main road!
ALEX HIS MUM : i personally think they should have gone for the chapel stevie : wot happened to the chapel

Kirstie laughs at Lily.
Kirstie : The chapel has been sold to someone who lives in that village already and who was initially interested in it. The agents in that case were very anti-interlopers and did everything they could to put us off. So we certainly weren't helped in that case by the agent who at one point told us it was sold when it wasn't. If they had gone up as high as they ended up going then they would have got the chapel easily.

dave england : Good show. Tough customers. Did they find a place in the city in the end?
david : Did they get their London flat?

Phil : No they didn't because they haven't sold their London house yet so they are still bridging.

Kirstie : But anyone who is looking to buy a house in Elephant and Castle - it's very nice!

Chris : Do you normally get a lot of help from the agents because you're making a TV show?

Kirstie : No! Quite the reverse! We don't plug estate agents in the show and they sometimes resent that. For the most part they are quite helpful though. Agents are there to represent the vendors, so they are there to look after the sellers not the purchasers.

crawcrags : Estate agents scare me!

Phil : Working as home finders, we put in front of estate agents committed purchasers who have their finances in order, who generally know what they want and we're able to smooth the process for the agents as well.

Kirstie : I think agents are often scared of TV because they are so often made to look bad. I do have a lot of sympathy with their predicament though.

Phil : All too often buyers just forget whom the estate agents are working for and who pays their wages.

Quasi : hello phill and kirsty, i've been living in a very expensive part of essex for the past 5 years. I am aware that the increases in house price are relative but the property in this area has had an above average increase. Would it be a good time to cash in on the increase and buy in a slightly less sought after area as i am considering a move?

Kirstie : This is one of those questions that's almost impossible to answer as there are so many questions we need to ask you. If you are single and have no commitments, then yes, maybe move and see how it goes. But with stamp duty moving is a very expensive process and the market has to fall by about 15% in the next year to make it worthwhile for anyone to sell just for the sake of cashing in.

Phil : If you are trading up the market it makes financial sense to do that in a deflationary environment.

Hilary : How do I find someone like you to do the legwork for me ?

Phil : Check out www.relocationagents.com that will provide you with members of the association of relocation agents.

Kirstie : Of which Phil and I are members.

Phil : You need to find an agent familiar with the area you are looking in.

Deborah : Chat Ed how can we apply for the next series?
Ian : Can you please repeat the number for people interested in the next series

Kirstie : You ring Ideal World Productions on 0141 353 3222 and speak to Elaine. We are looking for new contributors for the new series of Relocation so give them a ring.

Bob : Kirstie, you always seem to have the best gadgets, are you always on the lookout for new ones?
TonyRoper : Kirstie. your phone looks like a communicator from Star Trek. Do you ever wish you could be beamed up from some of the clients?

Kirstie laughs
Kirstie : an American company called Handspring makes my phone. The model is a Trio. I had an American boyfriend briefly and he had one too - that was the best thing to come out of that relationship! It does e-mail and brilliant texting. It doesn't have that much talk time on the battery though but Phil says that no phone anywhere has that much talk time!

Phil laughs

marcia : can you make a bidget show for us in the real world?
kookibev : Kirsty do we need a high budget to go on your show

Kirstie : We do make budget shows all the time, last week we did one in Cambridge for £130,000.

Phil : And before that we bought a 3 bed flat in London for £173,000.

Emma-Louise : and you think that is cheap?
Kas : 130,000!!!!! Wishful thinking for me!!

Kirstie : Relocations is more aspirational and is less real world, but we do a lot of real world work on Locations.

pryder : 130? hopw about 40 k

Kirstie : We did a show in Bolton and the budget was a max of £35,000. Please, if you want our help, call into the show and get in touch. It totally depends on which part of the world you want to live in though.

Carla : Now that’s more like a budget
MichelleD : Did you know each other before the programme?
pryder : looking for a new boyfriend then kirstie , what type pf man do you go for, phil perhaps?
Andy21 : Are you two a couple?! :)

Phil : No we didn't, we met on the screen test. We'd read about each other. We both ran similar businesses in different parts of London.

Kirstie laughs
Kirstie : I think Phil's wife might have words to say about that pryder!

Phil : I've been trying for years!

Kirstie : Brains over brawn, pryder. They have to love the movies and they have to like my little dog Foxy!

Steve the badger : What are the main things to consider when buying at a distance? (We're planning to move from Bristol to Aberdeen in August)

Kirstie : Get in touch with us and come on Relocations please! There's so much to consider! Make a diary of your day-to-day life so that you realise which are the things that are really important to you in your current life in Bristol.

Phil : Before you make the trip there to view do lots of research on the net and speak to agents. Don't view things until you have done some serious research. Or, use a home finder.

Kirstie : We love Aberdeen, we did a show there. We'd love to go back and help you.

Phil : It's a very wealthy city actually.

rm : Don't you think that the movement of all the London trendies to the countryside undermines country life? Especially since many of them don't live there full time and don't use local shops etc. Doesn't your programme encourage this lack of involvement?

Kirstie : This is the first time that anyone has picked up on this. We thought that everyone would be saying it. In our experience people who start this move finish this move.

Pookey : I totally agree with RM

Kirstie : A lot of people do this because they are not prepared to commit 100% to the country but they end up there usually. They do end up using the local amenities and they know that if you don't use it - you lose it. It's very simple.

Lindsey : Do you feel that now is the right time to buy a second property as an investment or are prices surely to drop?

Kirstie : Each area is completely different - you just can't make a call on that one.

Phil : Now is the time to be conscious of what and where you buy and how much you pay for it.

Kirstie : If you are going to buy now and interest rates go up you have to make sure that you will still be able to afford it. Property is a long-term investment you always have to remember that.

Bob : Do you ever hear back from the previous people you help....how they are getting on? (such as that couple north of glasgow)

Kirstie : Yes, Fiona and Tom... absolutely, they are loving it.

louisa : will you ever do a programme abroad,or is the uk market ur only market?
PaulF : Relocation, Reloaction In The Sun?

Kirstie : Channel 4 already have A Place in the Sun and we have to be careful of Phil's bald head! We are off to do a special in a foreign location next year and we are really looking forward to it. The location is top secret though!

mike : But it is a beautiful Bald head! ;-)

Phil : So secret even I don't know where it is.

lily : favourite property programme on TV please?

Kirstie : Property Ladder

Phil : No! Grand Designs.

lily : grand designs very good
Andy213 : sarah beeny rocks

Phil : Property Ladder will now come into its own in a slightly weaker market.

Kirstie : I rushed up to Sarah Beeny the other day and introduced myself and she had no idea who I was because she doesn't watch TV! I thought she might know me as we work in the same kind of area and for Channel 4 but she look very non-plussed at me. It was very funny.

Jen : If somebody wanted to get started into your type of job how would they go about it?

Kirstie : Find out if there are any relocation agents in your area and see if they need help.

Phil : The Association of Relocation Agents run occasional seminars for people who are interested in exactly that. www.relocationagents.com

tigger : Thanks for chatting and good luck with the new series
steven : i think you are absolutely terrific Kirstie
Margaret Collier : Hey Kirstie, how come you're not mentioning knocking down walls so much lately?
louisa : bye bye

Kirstie laughs

Phil : I stole her sledgehammer

Kirstie : But don't worry in the new series of Location I think I manage to knock down a wall in every show!

Mims : Thanks Phil and Kirstie!
Mikey : Bye both
meagain : see ya guys.
Ellie : thanks GUys!
Gerard : Bye!
Bob : bye guys we love you......
Mims : Love the show!
louisa : you two guys are great, keep up the good work
Chris : top programme, keep up the good work
smolly : It's a love-in.
martin : cheers

Phil : Thanks for watching and supporting us - it's been a great series to make.

Kirstie : It has been totally exhausting but by some miracle Phil and I are still speaking to each other and we are really looking forward to the next series and keep watching! Please!
