Model Actress Whatever - Morwenna Banks and Jack Docherty

Comic duo Morwenna Banks and Jack Docherty joined us for a late night chat.

Chat Ed : Welcome Jack, welcome Morwenna!

Jack Docherty : Hello everyone, my name is Jack and please be gentle with me.

Morwenna Banks : Hello everyone, my name is Morwenna and we love you all - REMEMBER THAT!

shunty : You said you only loved me!

Morwenna Banks laughs
Morwenna Banks : And I do! But that's our secret.

Beastie : Are you pleased with the way it turned out?

Jack Docherty : Yes. We were very pleased with the way it turned out. It's about the closest thing we've done together that's turned out how we imagined it to turn out, and that's a lot to do with the director too.

Morwenna Banks : I agree. We love Rankin. That sounds rude but it's not.

jonnyf : the runner was the funniest character in the show, who was the inspiration?
Growler : Are any of the characters based on real people you know?

Morwenna Banks : The runner was played by Rhys Thomas, who was once a runner, Rhys is a brilliant comic actor and he brought his own particular 'magic' to the part.

Jack Docherty : And the character of the Duke of Westumberland was slightly based on the aristocrat that Naomi Campbell's mother used to go out with, who is now dead, but that wasn't our fault.

Kai : Have you watched the rest of the shows in the Comedy Lab series to weight up the competition?

Jack Docherty : Yes, I've seen them all. And I've enjoyed them all I have to say.

Morwenna Banks : I haven't, because I'm afraid.

Jack Docherty : I don't see it as a competition.

Morwenna Banks : No, more a love fest!

Jack Docherty : I love everybody who has done Comedy Lab, I love all of them. However, if any of those f****** get a series and I don't... I'd like to know who's responsible!

Beastie : Are you working on any other material at the moment?

Morwenna Banks : I'm working on a film for a big important company, called Intermedia.

Jack Docherty : I'm also writing a film for Scottish Screen, that's kind of where both of us want to go in the future... towards film, so that's what we're both concentrating on for the next week.

Morwenna Banks : I've also just done the voices for an animation called Monkey Dust, for the BBC, which has to be surely the best title of a TV show, almost ever!

Jack Docherty : And I am working on numerous projects too fabulous to mention!

Morwenna Banks : And I have glorious hair!

Jack Docherty : And I...

Morwenna Banks : Leave it!

Jack Docherty : ...am terribly handsome.

Tag : I know in making TV you are often approached by slimy people who want to be 'repaid' often sexually... so... have you succumbed, Jack?

Morwenna Banks laughs

Jack Docherty : At the drop of a hat.

Ian : Was there a conscious effort to make MAW as rude as you could get away with... the unshaven crotch shot raised a chuckle.
Beastie : what is the smuttiest scene you have ever devised?

Morwenna Banks : No, we are just that rude in real life. It would have been ruder, if it wasn't TV. The crotch shot was actually Jack.

Chat Ed faints

Jack Docherty : I have never, knowingly, been provocatively rude, but that crotch shot was actually Morwenna's arse.

Fangle : did anything go horribly wrong during the production?

Jack Docherty : Sadly, no. I wish there was an anecdote about something going horribly wrong, but the only mishap on the entire shoot was when I mislaid my heroin in Morwenna's hairy arse.

Morwenna Banks : What a laugh we had.

Jack Docherty : Seriously, the whole thing was cool basically.

Gavpowell : did anything go horribly right during production?

Morwenna Banks : Well, the casting process which we agonised over seemed to go horribly right, we got lucky, we got the best cast, who all turned up clean and shiny in the morning.

Jack Docherty : The director, that went horribly right too, he's our man and our bitch.

Chat : Morwenna, haven't seen you in many things recently, what have you been up to, and how did you get involved in this?

Morwenna Banks : I have been writing and producing this, writing a film, and I spend a fair amount of time in America where I have been producing my first feature film, The Announcement. I got involved with this because Jack and I used to write a lot of material together for our sketch show 'Absolutely'. We had this idea together a number of years ago, but other things got in the way, like a talk show and stuff.

Jack Docherty : And the truth is, I wrote the show...

Morwenna Banks : Leave it...

Jack Docherty : ...and Morwenna typed it up for me.

Morwenna Banks : And the truth is Jack laid on a bed of velvet smoking while I produced, acted, directed, designed and made the little things that TV passes down to appear on your screen to make it a show. AND, had a baby!

Ian : Did 'he' want to call it 'The Jack Docherty Sitcom'?

Morwenna Banks laughs
Morwenna Banks : Yes... and thank you for asking Ian, but I stamped his tyranny on the head and produced a fine piece of work entitled, 'The Morwenna Banks Project' involving a big bald t*** who did nothing.

tubeway : Is the son of Peter Richardson's character meant to be Harmony Korine (US filmaker, who wrote Kids)? He looks and sounds like him.
Ian : Morwenna, did you base your character on anyone you've ever met? (no need to mention names... unless you want to )?

Morwenna Banks : Very cool question, we like that, good reference, basically, yes to tubeway.

Jack Docherty : I have an anecdote about Karmony Korine and our director but I cannot possibly divulge this over the net.

Morwenna Banks : Ian, I refer my learned questioner to the book 'Rebel Heart' by Bebe Beull for the inspiration for Angel, however, if any lawyers are reading this, I did not in any way take the book 'Rebel heart' by Bebe Beull as an inspiration for the character of Angel. Think Jerry Hall, Courtney Love, Marianne Faithful... that's my inspiration.

Chat Ed : Our half hour with Morwenna and Jack is nearly up now, so last two questions now, thanks...
Andy : I really enjoyed it, bit of a coup getting Peter Richardson. Do you have a favorite Comic Strip?

Jack Docherty : Yes, my favourite comic strip is 'Queen of the Wild Frontier'

Morwenna Banks : Are you in it?

Jack Docherty : Which starred me and Gary Beadle (out of EastEnders currently), which was written and directed by Peter. That's where I met him and I've wanted to work with him for all these years, so hopefully if we get a series we'll work with him some more. To me Peter Richardson is a superb film comic actor, much under-appreciated and I'm glad you like him. And the short answer is 'The Strike' is actually my favourite comic strip.

Chat Ed : And lastly...
Gavpowell : if you could write a book about your experiences, what would you call it?

Morwenna Banks : "We F***** Up", by M. Banks and J. Docherty (but it was his fault, I said we should be nice to people).

Jack Docherty : Mein Kampf, but it was her fault. Tomorrow belongs to someone else and goodnight.

Chat Ed : That's it! Thanks for that Morwenna and Jack, great stuff! Thanks for joining us tonight everyone.

Morwenna Banks : God bless you for staying up!

Upside Down Nose : Cheers!

Morwenna Banks : Thank you for hanging on in.

Gavpowell : bring back absolutely!night :)
April : byebeybeye
shunty : cheers morweena you know my number CALL ME!

Jack Docherty : Thanks for your questions if you don't like it watch something else.

Fangle : *waves*

Jack Docherty : Seriously, thank you all. Night night.
