Masters of Darkness - Aron Paramor

We found out more about the Queen's Magician from expert Aron Paramor.

Chat Ed : Hello and welcome to tonight's live MASTERS OF DARKNESS chat with ARON PARAMOR. He will answer questions on Crowley and Dee.

Aron Paramor : Hello all. Hope you enjoyed the Masters of Darkness.

db : hi Adam2002 : hi - good show Cairo : Evening

Aron Paramor : I thoroughly enjoyed shooting the Crowley and Dee episodes, let's begin!

Dan : Do you practice magic in any form?

Aron Paramor : I used to when I was from the ages of about 17 to 23, not anymore though. I tend to follow Buddhism now.

eroica : Fascinating series :) Are you personally confident of the reality of magick and other-worldy beings and planes of existence?

Aron Paramor : Yes, pretty much.

Quail Watson : Hi - Do you know if Crowley ever got round to finishing the ritual started at loch ness?

Aron Paramor : I think he was supposed to have finished it astrally, as he crossed the Sahara on a camel, which means that he constructed the Temple in his mind as he crossed the long periods of time in the desert.

Pogo : in the Crowley documentry we heard he had a son what happened to him?

Aron Paramor : Aleister Attaturk, a great artist, he was forced to become a figurehead of the OTO, rebelled and took to wearing uniforms of his own design. I believe he died this month.

Cairo : If I say Dragon Rouge what do you say?

Aron Paramor laughs
Aron Paramor : White Griffin.

firedrake : Are there any people who you would say are the modern equivalents of these old occult masters.... who would we look back on in another 500 years time?

Aron Paramor : Kenneth Grant, Kenneth Anger and Genesis P Orrige.

Caldach : It seems from the series that 'The Masters of Darkness' seems to be mainly that the masters lose control of the forces they summon, is this generaly the case across other occultist?

Aron Paramor : No, not necessarily. There are many people involved in the occult who remain balanced, such as, Alice Bailey and also Gurdieff and Eliphas Levi.

lPOKERFACE : how about the whole church of satan and the late anton levay?

Aron Paramor : Anton Levay, a little too modern, in my view seems to be a personal form of fascism, not rooted in any older traditions. As a consequence they always look for the weaker route of the tree. There is always a weaker route so the tree will fall down. It tends to attract weak people in search of power, however I still like the strong, moral code that likens us to animals.

Liger : Aron: Have you been iniated into any mystery school or occult order? Honestly, is it all b*llshit?

Aron Paramor : No, but, self-initiated into the TOPY (Temple of Psychic Youth). I'm also a friend of Kenneth Anger/OTO. But that is all. The exploration of 'the self' isn't bullshit, although some groups will consist of just that.

ORyan Wells : How do you fall on the perenial question in Magick is everything projected from ourselves or are these forces independant of the consciousness of the operator?

Aron Paramor : Good question. I think it's both. I think that the changes in consciousness through magic (magic with a c is OK for the minute) or self-exploration are tangible in your own head. I believe they are real in the external world but totally unprovable, except to yourself.

Hounslow : Do all your friends think you are disturbed ? HOw does your girlfriend / wife feel about your work ?

Aron Paramor laughs
Aron Paramor : My ex-wife thinks it's all funny. I think it's dark stuff, but I retain a sense of humour and girlfriends enjoy that.

orlic : Why you didnt include A.O.Spare on MAsters of Darkness?

Aron Paramor : Very good question. Perhaps a little too underground for the general public. A brilliant genius in my eyes. I did suggest him but too underground.

Doctor Oz : Aron..How did you really feel when you entered Crowleys farmhouse in Cefalu?

Aron Paramor : The most unbelievable excitement. It was like modern archaeology, a dream come true. I had spent 3 days wandering the hills, trying to find the Abbey, as no local would tell me where it was, so I discovered it on my own. I walked through the shattered doorway, and was in awe.

Richard Firbank : Were the pictures in Crowleys house scary or stupid?

Aron Paramor : No, not stupid. Fascinating, rich, indecipherable in some cases, and bizarre.

dave : why so many 'spooky' camera effects and irrelevant pieces shot in graveyards?

Aron Paramor : It was very difficult to film the documentary. I think rather than a dry feel, a moody, almost emotional feel, was created. It was a difficult job to do and I think a moving one, particularly with Crowley.

Bruce : Crowley was described as an evil man. It appeared to me from the documentary that he did not harm others but lived by his own morals. Surely this is selfish or anti social, not evil.

Aron Paramor : Crowley was evil in the religious, blasphemous sense, not evil in the sense of a serial killer. But he did push his friends, who were not friends but disciples, to their limits and there were casualties.

SEBASTIAN : Has anyone done any research into the Enochian text. or am i talking to a brick wall here?

Aron Paramor : Very little research has been done. What intrigues me about the mystery is that you cannot fake a language without it being very similar to your own. But the extent to which this is true, scientifically now, needs further investigation. However, the amount of books and scripts you can read makes it pretty intriguing. You know Umberto Ecco wrote a slim volume and they truly believed it was the language of the angels and that it was fact. I can't remember the name of the book, but for the people of the time it was a language waiting to be discovered - the language of Adam and Eve before the Tower of Babel.

Nigel Limer : Hi Aron: My understanding is that the Book of Enoch was ordered to be removed from the Canon of Scripture by St Augustine over a thousand years ago. When two Ethiopic copies were discovered by James Bruce in the 1780's (and were translated by Canon Charles), the book seem to feature angels (Nephilim) and Watchers prominently. From another source, I have read that the Nephilim instructed man in forbidden arts, including chema (the forerunner of alchemy). Could Dee's angels descend from the Nephilim and has anyone tried to cross-reference the Enochian language with the original Book of Enoch?

Aron Paramor : Yes, it's called Enochian Magic, I think, by an American author. It does just that. It delves deeper into what you have mentioned. Sorry but I can't remember his name, his surname begins with an S though, but it looks at the history of Enochian.

Chat Ed : Our half hour with Aron is nearly up now, so last three questions now, thanks...
Dewi : Do you think that black magicians exist in the sphere of politics or in big business?

Aron Paramor : I think the occult is tucked behind many things, i.e. the eye of Horos on dollars, the 60's in general and superstitions, but black magicians/satanists etc. no, I don't think so. The general fabric of British society unconsciously follows some quite old traditions that are present in modern day life.

John Tindsley : I find your comment about AC as 'religious evil' slightly silly, Jesus was religious evil to orthodox Jews of his period!

Aron Paramor : I mean to make the division between the worship of a dark God and all its positive aspects and the mundane evil of murder, rape or such inhuman acts.

Indigo : Throughout the series it has been said that the subject risked opeing a doorway... any danger to the rest of us if 'they' do?

Aron Paramor : No. I believe the risk involves their own mind and if powerful enough knock-on effects in the outside world to their own lives.

Chat Ed : That's it! Thanks for that Aron, great stuff! Thanks for joining us tonight everyone.

Aron Paramor : I wish everybody well. Aleister Crowley in particular has brought a lot of colour to my life. See you all, perhaps in a London club. Take care, love Aron.
