Masters and Servants - Rajiv and Jyotika Mehta

Making your servants cut your toe nail hair and brush your teeth?! The Mehta family really got to grips with the Master lifestyle!

Chat Ed : Welcome to this evening's MASTERS AND SERVANTS chat with Rajiv and Jyotika Mehta!

Rajiv : Hello to everyone!

Louis : hello

Rajiv : Thanks for watching and thanks for your support.

Jyotika : Hi there gang! I hope you guys enjoyed it.

natalie : do you really believe that you were the best master and servant
spa2k : to joy: do you really believe that you were the better masters and servants?
Rachel : Do you think that you were better servants than the Hasting-Evans family?

Jyotika : Absolutely! I think the programme spoke for itself. We put a lot of fun into it and we worked really, really hard. We were always very polite to them, we never once went below the belt and we never ever said they were this or they were that. There were times when they were really nasty about things, but you know we didn't make an issue of it.

paul and sam : would you like someone to come in to your home and go through your underwear, and show it to the nation?
Jeremy : With hindsight and being able to look at the program do the Mehta family not feel a little ashamed of their behaviour as servants? Would they have behaved like that if they had been servants in the first week?

Jyotika : To begin with they were very good servants but then they started to be horrible to us. They said our house was dirty and that we smelt. How dare they! Their house was worse than ours. There were times when we saw so much grot. We decided that no matter how hard we tried to please these people that they would never be happy with it. So we decided that enough was enough. I don't see why we should have to put up with it. Laundry is laundry, I washed her underwear, she never washed mine.

Falgun Naker : Did u really like your Daughter dancing in frount of them

Jyotika : Yeah I was very proud. Really proud of her. It was a pleasure for me to be able to show my child's abilities.

Rika : how did she feel about the dancing?

Jyotika : She was quite happy but she had been working all day so she was very tired, don't forget she's only 14 so she's not used to all that. It was a lot of pressure for a young girl.

kat : You may never have washed her laundry but he did cut your husbands toe hair, I know which I'd rather do thank you very much!

Jyotika : Maybe you might be kinky!

JG staffordshire : wot was it like living in a camper van for a week?

Rajiv : There was no water and we always like to have a bath every single day. They didn't let us even use their bath. We had to have cold showers in our caravan, that's why one or two days we were late.

Jack : the cutting the toe nail hair punishment was quality, were there any other punishments you were going to use, or did use?

Rajiv : We wanted to make the programme a bit of a laugh, you know, add a bit of comedy and all the time they were just complaining so we thought it might be fun.

michaelcollins : were you were jealous of their beautiful house

Rajiv : Not really no, they had a second-hand bed and second-hand furniture. We have more precious things than they have got. The love in my family is more precious than anything. They didn't have that.

Chris Richard : I can't believe they made you cook meat. Were you tempted to say 'no, I wont do it'?
Andyt : You must have known what was going to happen regarding the meat. Why take part if not?

Rajiv : We were tempted to say no, but if we had done the programme would have stopped. We didn't want to do that. We thought let's see what we can do and how we can please them. Thanks to Jyotika - she did most of the cooking. I can understand that yes, but every single day we had to do it. We were prepared for it. They just wanted to stretch us you know, from day one.

Phil H : I think the level of petty bickering, especially with regards to cleanliness - both houses looked pretty clean, was pathetic - why get embroiled in such arguing?

Jyotika : Simply because they were hitting us right below the belt. They said our house was dirty and that we smelt. I saw so many dirty, horrible things in their house but I kept it to myself. They had no respect at all. Sometimes you have to give what you get.

Eileen : You made your servants brush your teeth and cut your toe hair. Was your aim to humiliate?

Jyotika : No it was part of their punishment as you would punish any servant that was disobedient. It was a tiny punishment, we could have made them cut their own hair, I mean look at Ed, he looked more like a hippy than anything.

alisonj : Did you feel you were portrayed fairly?
MichaelB : Jyotika - Do you think the programme showed you as you or did you not recognise yourself

Jyotika : No we weren't. I also think that the way Maggie kept on and on about the same issues…you know.. I just thought come on, get real!

JudyY : They did not punish you once despite your actions. I would say you had no respect.

Jyotika : As a master, it was their duty, if they knew we were playing up, to punish us. Maggie admitted that she couldn't really cope with us. So who made the better master?

maryanne : you gave much more than you got. Didnt you realise that you would make yourselves look really unpleasant by doing what you did, eg drinking their booze and spreading the cream with your hands?

Jyotika : On the contrary - we found that some of our booze had been stashed in their little caravan.

rufus roughcut : Do u think the producers should have been more strict about the right ppl wearing the right uniforms...ur son looked silly in the maids dress

Rajiv chuckles
Rajiv : They told us that we got the uniform wrong, so we swapped. We thought we'd have a laugh.

Rosebud : As is typical of this programme, the 1st Masters & family seemed incapable of fulfilling their side of the contract , where was the respect shown in this respect?

Rajiv : We fulfilled all the cooking and housework duties. We were there the full time and they were happy with that.

Syntax Error : How different do you think the experience would of been had you been servants in the first week?

Rajiv : Yeah it would have been even better because they would have left after the first day anyway. So in a way it was better that we were masters first.

Leeds : Did you deliberately say that you as a family were a better master and slave just to antagonise the Evans'?

Jyotika : I wasn't trying to antagonise them, I was just being honest. I don't think they have ever been told anything like that in their lives. You know this is the reality, we are better than them, that's what hurt them the most. They are the kind of people who have always had everything handed to them. So we told them how it really was.

Welsh Lady : OK so you might have made the better master, but I think that your role as a Servant wasn't up to scratch. But you did make us laugh though.
Vashti : Do you think the two families may have got on better under different circumstances?

Jyotika : I don't agree with you Welsh Lady, we were good servants, we just made it look easy. Under different circumstances we MAY have been a bit more amicable.

Amy : Do you really think that you were the best servants? I think others would strongly disagree!!!
jenni : i strongly disagree
paulkent : I think 95% of people would disagree!
Holly54 : me too
n_c : I think they were the worst servants ever
Anna : i think that everyone disagrees

Jyotika : Yes, we worked hands on, you don't understand how hard it is to keep everyone under control. You can easily command but it's the way you do it that matters.

Rachel : After seeing the programme do you feel your children were rather rude. Your son in particular seems to have quite a bad attitude towards his elders.

Jyotika : He is a very respectable person normally, it was just the way he was being treated. They were asked to do tasks and the bosses were being very unreasonable in the ways they were issuing their commands. Things got a bit out of hand and of course children will be children. They won't put up with it.

sophia : do you not think that commanding somebody to brush your teeth is unreasonable
Jones140 : i didnt see him cutting toe hair

Jyotika : It's not about unreasonable or reasonable, don't forget this was supposed to be entertaining. It was a TV programme. So hopefully they enjoyed the different ways you could be a master. It's taking things to a different dimension I think.

murkdale : your son was the best master of all- firm but polite. what job do you think he'll get when he's older?

Jyotika : I should hope the Prime Minister of England!

ChrisP : I'd like the way your daughter just quietly got on with it
rosmary : she was polite except the teeth incident
thebadboy : your daughter was very pretty, lol

Jyotika : Aah! She really knows what she's doing most of the time it's only when you put people under so much pressure that they can crack. But it just goes to show how fantastic my children are.

Chat Ed : Our half hour with Rajiv and Jyotika is almost up, so last questions now...

Suze : I think that respect is as important as performing duties when it comes to being a servant. Do you think you were better in that aspect?

Rajiv : Yes we were better servants. We didn't have tea breaks and we didn't refuse to do certain duties. They had breaks all the time, he would be smoking all the time and I would be calling him. Graham skived off for a whole day to go to a meeting. We were on call all day, so yes we were better servants.

podgy : You have really made my blood boil
Liz : did u really feel u were the better family? as you weren’t portrayed to be!!
J : would you ever do it again

Rajiv : Yes, my family is a great family,. We work together as a great unit. According to the view I'm getting from everyone we were better masters and servants, we didn't complain about anything and we completed our 7 days with a laugh, they couldn't even finish a conversation with a laugh. And yes we would do it again, why not! We enjoyed it.

Chat Ed : That's it! Thanks for coming and talking to us Rajiv and Jyotika!

nisha : I think you made most viewers’ blood boil, you were just so unco-operative

Rajiv : Thank you very much for your support and thank you all for watching us, I hope you have all had a laugh and enjoyed it. All in all we put 100% effort into the whole thing.

Jyotika : Thanks again for your support and I'm sure you had a few good laughs out of it. Whatever you do in life doesn't always have to be serious, you can have a little bit of fun.

Benjo : I don't think anyone saw the good side of what you did..honestly I don’t
JudyY : Support?! Ha!
Joanne : best of luck anyways
jam03 : bye
becky8888uk : i thought you very rude at times
stormyskyes : byeeeeeeeeeeeee
