Faking It - Matt Davies

Matt told us about the best laxative in the world - jumping off a small building!

Chat Ed : Welcome to this evening's FAKING IT chat with MATT DAVIES!

Lola : Hello Matt
ant : hallo mat

Matt Davies : Hello and fire away!

mandy : Would you seriously consider a career as a stuntman
Lee : Matt - congratulations on your success! Has the experience made you think about changing careers and pursuing stunt work?
witty : That was amazing matt

Matt Davies : The honest answer is, yes I would love to do stunt work, the sad truth however is that I'm a bit old to start doing it now. The time it takes to train to be a stuntman would just mean that I'd be too over the hill. It's a great lifestyle though, the adrenaline rush is great and the women are fantastic! Thank you for the congratulations as well :)

Steve : How do you feel now seeing it on tV?

Matt Davies : It's a very odd experience it has to be said. I think the Director did a really good job with it. He got all the important bits in there. I watched it with all my friends and family and it's been a really good night. It's really odd seeing yourself on TV though - nothing can prepare you for that.

ant : hallo what did you feel like when you jumped??????
Lola : How did you do it ? I am terriefied of jumping
pooh : Matt, congrats on your fall! Grea

Matt Davies : After I did the jump I got a big adrenaline rush which was a really good feeling. It hasn't cured me of my fear of heights but it has helped. Most of all it gave me a sense of personal achievement more than anything else. It was very scary! And, it's the best laxative I have ever known!

Sybil : Have you settled back into your old job?
podman : matt - will you stay an insurance adjuster?

Matt Davies : Good question. I suppose, yes, to a degree I have settled back into my old job, but life will never be the same and I don't know what the future holds for me at the moment. Why, do you have a job offer for me?
Matt Davies grins

joanne : you been made to do any stunts at partys yet?

Matt Davies laughs
Matt Davies : No! I am due to do a stunt on RI:SE tomorrow morning so let's see if I remember my training and if I remember how not to break my neck! Do you have any requests? My rates are reasonable.

jim : When did you first find out about having to do the fall, and at any time did you just think of just jacking it all in?
Christopher Pitt : Just wanted to say well done to Matt from all in CCS at work! Good stuff, Good Jump

Matt Davies : I found out about the fall about 2 weeks into the programme which did frighten me but it wasn't totally unexpected I guess. I didn't think about backing out, I was quite determined. When you get an opportunity to do something like this you have to get the most out of it and just go for it.

matty : do you still keep in touch with any of the people from the show
Kerry : Have you kept in touch with the people that taught you?

Matt Davies : Yeah I still keep in touch with Andy and Morgan, and Rocky to a degree. Also the film crew from RDF too, we had such a great time filming it that it was difficult not to keep in touch. And although I had my falling out with Morgan, he's actually a really nice guy - honest!

Ruth : At any stage were you convinced that u would get found out?

Matt Davies : Yes, all the time! A couple of things didn't go as well as I hoped they would, so I was nervous then. All the way through I did have a lot of doubts but I had great teachers luckily.

pooh : how did you feel when the last judge went for number 4?

Matt Davies laughs
Matt Davies : I almost wet my pants! I couldn't believe it. That was the icing on the cake for me and just kept the high going really. It cost me a lot of money for him to say that! …JOKE!

scuch : Did you apply to faking it, or did you get put forward. where there any expections ?
Nick : how did you get to do faking it??

Matt Davies : I applied for it. I didn't expect to get picked though. There were no expectations really as you are only told things on a need-to-know basis. So you take it a day at a time and try and hold your nerve with each challenge and try not to look like too much of a girl (no offence to all the ladies out there obviously).

mywifefakesit : u reckon u could have faked it as a garage mc or a ballroom dancer

Matt Davies : Er..no. Not at all. I take my hat off to everyone else, especially the drag queen. He had a lot more balls than I did to do that one. So no, I'm tone deaf and I've got two left feet.

Emily : what's the most exciting thing you've done since the prog?

Matt Davies laughs
Matt Davies : Oh dear. Um...I don't know actually. Since the programme there have been opportunities to do TV and radio shows so it has continued on. I did actually take my car to an air field to practice what I had learnt. It's all a bit of a comedown after the show finishes to try and find something to match up to that. I haven't thrown myself off any skyscrapers if that's what you mean!

RDstunts : Matt has your car insurance gone UP!?!

Matt Davies laughs

Tam : How much did your own personal insurance insurance premium go up?

Matt Davies : I'm now uninsurable! No one will touch me with a barge pole and I have to ride a push bike. You wouldn't believe the figures, Tam! Matt Davies laughs

stu : Matt, missed the first 20 min so I don't know how terrifed of heights you were at the start, but have you overcome that now? Great work by the way!
Ruth : do you still have your fea off hights or was that cured during Faking It?
charlotte : have u got over your fear of heights?

Matt Davies : Thanks very much, stu. I was absolutely petrified. My knees go weak when I'm climbing stairs. It really was a very bad phobia. I wasn't faking that bit.

Stuntwannabe : Matt- was the whole show rigged?

Matt Davies : No, not at all! I was just lucky. If you really are a stuntwannabe then start training hard and get in contact with Rocky Taylor (he has a website) and he'll give you some tips and advice as I can hardly say I'm qualified. But it's worth the effort.

johnny park : would you ever be tempted to use your new stunt driving skills, for example, in a race for a last parking space!?

Matt Davies laughs
Matt Davies : Absolutely! I just wish I'd bought one of the guns back with me as well, I do hate having my parking space pinched.

JonnyIrish : have u tried falling down the stairs and claiming

Matt Davies : No, but that's a bloody good idea! Trouble is I'd probably kill myself.

ayesha : Has the whole experience made you more confident?

Matt Davies : Yes, definitely. When you get thrown into something that you have no experience with and you have to learn it fast you do learn a lot about yourself. It does have an effect on you whether you like it or not - but I LIKE it!

mark1977 : did you enjoy the acting, ie being in front of a camera as much as you did the physical stunt work
gem1 : Matt, u looked v. handsome on screen. Ever considered acting? R u single? ;-)

Matt Davies chuckles
Matt Davies : The acting was great because you just play really, like when you're a kid. All the other stunt guys were really good and gave me good tips, so I tried my best. I don't think I'm any Sean Connery but maybe I could get a bit part in something...hehe..no, I don't think I've got quite that much bottle. And yes, I am single at the moment. However, I am always open to offers.

charlotte : was that injury as bad as it looked? if that happened to me i would have just cried n gone home!!!great that u carried on!!!!!!
gypsyking : That bruise was awesome! any lasting injuries?

Matt Davies : The bruise - yes it did hurt as much as it looked as though it hurt! It gave me a bit of a limp and made me look like I had borrowed the elephant man's hip. I got whiplash from an airbag too. But it's a school of hard knocks as Morgan said so you just have to roll with the punches.

pooh : Which part out of all the stunts did you enjoy learning the most?

Matt Davies : I enjoyed the driving, that was great fun. I think I enjoyed everything apart from the fall! But that was bittersweet because of the high of seeing you're still in one piece afterwards. It was all fantastic though. The stunt guys made it all very enjoyable.

actionfan : which part of the stuntwork came most naturally to you? You seemed to look instantly comfortable with the guns!!!!

Matt Davies laughs
Matt Davies : Yeah, I did get quite into the guns I must admit. I wouldn't mind those sitting at home - they were great. I enjoyed the fighting the most probably. We just had a right laugh with that.

joanne : did you accisently hit anyone during filming or did you get hit?

Matt Davies : No and no. Fortunately in that sense I almost kicked Morgan in the balls and I'm not going to say whether that was deliberate or not, so I was close but no cigar.

allan : what did Rocky mean at the end of the program about sending you to Southampton?

Matt Davies laughs
Matt Davies : All the stunt guys took the piss throughout the whole 4 weeks, it was great banter and at the end it they were like, “Where do you think Matt can go from here?” and all of them said “Back to Southampton!” so, it was just a piss take.

ivan : matt hi what was your single most memorable moment while doing the experience

Matt Davies : Ooh...really good question. There were so many really memorable moments - highs and lows. But the end test when we were all sat around waiting for the result, that was a real quality moment. To manage to bluff your way passed the judges was a great feeling, I was buzzing for days after that and very drunk!

Sally Winter : Would you go through Faking It again?
Amy : Would u do it again?

Matt Davies : Yes. Most definitely. Only better, if I could. If you ever get the opportunity - do it.

Chat Ed : That's it! Thanks for coming and talking to us MATT!

witty : Hey matt can you wink at the camera on RISE for me??
Ruth : well i wish all the best 4 the future and well done
Allie : I havent watched faking it before, I must say, I loved it
Amy : All your hard work definately paid off! Well done!
Allie : Please ask Matt if he would like girlfriend from Yorkshire?
Karen : Well done for 'Faking it' . Might see you around in our home town, heres hoping :)
actionfan : Well done matt
ayesha : You where the best mate!
Roy : Thanks Matt, i hope to see you soon jumping! Byeee

Matt Davies : Thanks very much for the questions - they were excellent.

moggy : yay matt!!
Ferg : yeah well done
Allie : Matt you`re gorgeous xxxxxxxxxxxxx
pete : bye cheers for a good show

Matt Davies : Thanks for your kind messages as well and see you on RI:SE tomorrow (maybe a bit blurry eyed as I'm off to get pissed now!)

Chat Ed : Thank you all for coming... and for all the questions. Want a change of career and need some advice? Check out the Ideas Factory site - Ideas Factory.
