Dave - : HI Lynne
Matt Gupwell : Hi Lynne
Lynne : Hello, Lynne - the TV directing faker here!
Peter Provart : Well DONE!!!!
helen : you did so so well - are you considering a career change now?
adzy : lynn was great!!!
Lynne : Yes, I am hoping to get a job in TV. Not sure whether or not I'll have to start at a lower rung of the ladder, but eventually I hope to get to the job of Director. As long as I have got a good background in all other aspects of TV I should be OK
.
Kenny Dope : Are you still working for the fire service?
Lynne : Yes, unfortunately!
Lynn F : What was it like going back to your old life?
Lynne : It was difficult. I'd had a totally new experience and it was interesting because I felt that a lot of other people that I knew were quite closed off to things and here I was meeting a lot of new people who were really into what they did. I thought that TV people would be all materialistic, or just faking it really, but, in actual fact, they all knew where they were going and really enjoyed what they were doing. They were all very friendly and supportive.
jenny : Are you still in touch with connor and hamish?
bmxmike : Have Hamish or Connor given you any advice since the show?
Lynne : Yes, I am and I do miss that aspect of the programme. Hamish's friend who works for the BBC has taken a great interest in the programme and he has been really helpful to me. I've been to BBC Glasgow and spent time with him and even did a bit of vision-mixing with him.
Clive : What did you think of Hamish after his initial thoughts about you?
Lynne : I knew when we met that he didn't click with me and I didn't click with him and I felt really bad about that, but then the Producer of the show made me feel a whole lot worse about that! Then I took on the responsibility of thinking that I was totally in the wrong and I was so upset by that. But then, when we spoke the next day and I had apologised to him, it was really interesting because when we actually spoke properly I wondered why I had ever thought anything bad in the first place because he was brilliant - so enthusiastic. But you can't change what your initial feelings about someone were. He really brought me forward. Although when I was doing badly he would tell me I was crap, but he would also tell me when I was doing well.
stephen : jaysus Lynn...I am chewing my nails here..... what did you do to unwind after the final verdict????
Lynne : We went to lunch and I had copious amounts of red wine!
Belinda : Lynne, I'm very similar to you....did you find that facing a fear like this job, helped bring you out of yourself when you initial meet new people?
Lynne : Definitely, yes. I'd spent a lifetime putting my best foot forward and people don't necessarily like what they see, but if you would just let your guard down, which is quite difficult to do, they would probably like you more. This situation made me face that. I'm much more comfortable with who I am now and I wish that more of us would just show who they are too because then it would be less difficult when meeting new people.
kaz : Has your experience on the program changed the way you look at television?
Stirling : Do you now watch television like a director now?
Lynne : Hehe, yes. There are times now when I watch TV and I'll say to my husband 'That wasn't meant to happen!' I sometimes think oh, I would have done that differently. But I'm so inexperienced that I've got a cheek to say that anyway.
Bono : What did you prefer, music or live tv?
Lynne : Music - I really enjoyed the freedom of the music. I had to script music and that means you have to interpret the vocals, or who is playing, to fit your cameras. But when I did the freelance type of music with Hamish, I could pick and choose and I found it easy to picture when the drums, guitar or the singer was about to do something important in the song. I found it quite difficult to find the rhythm for conversation though, which we take for granted when we are speaking among friends. On a screen, I quite often got it wrong.
Stocks : Lynne, how did you get involved with the series in the furst place?
huggable_mark : how did you apply for faking it?
Lynne : It was a fax that came through from our HQ saying that RDF (the Production Company that makes Faking It) were looking for a Control Operator to become a studio director in May. I thought about it for a couple of days. Then called them up and got an interview. Then they picked me! I was elated, because I had watched all the series but then I started to think 'oh no, maybe I don't want to do this'. But that's what had stopped me in the past from doing anything, so I just decided to go for it.
Arrie : Lynn, what exactly is an EVS? you used the term on the Rise show
Lynne : Well that was a new one on me too. It's like a CD that means that you can start and stop it whenever you want, like you can with a CD player. Whereas VT (videotape) means if you get it wrong you have to rewind it and that takes time and you may lose out on it.
whale : on rise when the presenter got hit with the ball, did u panic at all? u seemed so calm
Lynne : I was completely bemused! One minute I was looking at the computer screen thinking that e-mails were about to come up and the next thing, they were kicking a ball about! At first it looked like one of them had been hit in the knackers but it turned out to be Colin's head. I just had to say “Get back to the desk and we'll move on”.
Kerry : Did you like the new haircut and image?
Lynne : Yes, I did like it but I had been growing my hair. I used to have really long hair. And then they cut I back and I've had to start all over again. But I liked the clothes. I got a lot of clothes out of it and I also learned what suits me and what doesn't.
billy1 : If you had to pick something for connor and hamish to fake it as, what would that be?
Lynne : A Fire Control Operator! It takes 16 weeks to be one of those and you're not fully qualified for 4 years. I'd like to see these people who are so flamboyant and capable in their chosen profession being put in a situation where if they say the wrong thing then someone might lose their life. I'd like to see Hamish squirming under his first 999 call.
mimi : Did you ever really tell yourself that you could do it? Were you expecting to 'win'?
Lynne : No! I never even win raffles. I've won very few times in my life. I knew that I had to do this. It was such a huge journey for me. I knew that if I failed I would lose the will to live almost. I would have felt like I was at the bottom of the pit. I was really lucky, it was touch and go for a while, but I managed to pull it off. But at the time I thought I had failed and I thought that as Hamish and Connor were so well-to-do that they had paid the judges to make me win!
Lynne laughs
StephenB : Are you nervous now - for tomorrow's appearance on RI:SE?
Lynne : Yes and no. No because I'm getting more used to being in front of the camera and yes because I don't know what they are going to spring on me. They are going to be coming into my home and we've been cleaning for 2 days in preparation!
fran : were you surprised Connor and his wife were so emotional about you winning?
Lynne : I was surprised that he was so emotional but I wasn't surprised that he'd be emotional. He had been so open with me about his life and it enabled me to be really open about my life. But when I saw the affect that the whole process had on him, I was amazed. You feel that although you have that support you are away from everything you know, that you're in a minority and on your own, but they were experiencing the same as me. I felt like I'd met someone that really understood what I was talking about.
Greg : Lynne, what is the best tip you could give to somebody wanting to become a director?
Lynne : Oh God! Umm...go on a Faking It!
Lynne laughs
Lynne : Learn the ropes, understand who the most important people are around you. You are the boss, but be a good boss. Don't think you are the sole person in charge of everything - utilise the skills that everyone else has.
Chat Ed : Finally
jake : was it a life changing experience
tracy c : has it changed you?
barni : can i officially be your first groupie?
Ed the Duck!!! : QUACK QUACK!
TallPaul : Was it Life changing?
Lynne : Yes it was life changing. I'm much more confident about my abilities to take on anything that I might want to do. And if you want to be my groupie, barni, you can!
kim : Bye Lynne! All the best for the future, hope to see you soon!
Jean : Well done Lynne - hope we don't lose you - but, somehow, I think we might!! Regards, Jean @LBFB Control.
Lynne : Oh my God, Jean! That's my boss! Hoping to be involved in 'entertaining' you in some way in the future. I hope to be behind the scenes, perhaps directing a few shows you might watch. Thank you for your support. To Jean…you may lose me, but thank you for your input and I wish you well.
