The Big Breakfast - Mark Bright (Brighty)

Mark Bright joined us for a quick natter after The Big Breakfast before dashing off on holiday.

C4 Chat Ed : Morning Mark

Mark Bright : Hello everyone!

kenny : What was the highlight of your career?

Mark Bright : The highlight, oo my god...er, playing 8 times at Wembley Stadium...two FA Cup finals, a Coca-Cola cup final and the ...erm....playoff game with Charlton.

Vixen Van Squixen : Brighty, what do you think about the current fall in performance at Liverpool? Is Houllier to blame?

Mark Bright : Well... Houllier spent I think 25million... he's got a lot of his own players in now, and... so... it's more like his team what he wants now. The blame always rests with the manager. The performance needs to get better, as they're in the bottom half of the table.

asp : If there was a punch up between the Big Breakfast presenters, who would win?

Mark Bright chuckles. Johnny would win because he's so *hard*. There could never be a punch up because everybody's good friends, and if it turned ugly Johnny would win.

Smess : Hello there ma friend :) What with all this pay-per-view, and that new system on digital where you can choose your angles and such. Can you see a time where football will be played in a studio, in front of just camera men? Or is that just me being paranoid?

Mark Bright : Smess you're being paranoid :) It's always going to take part in the football stadium. It's a people's game, watched by the people.

Arch : what do you think about the proliferation of foreign players? Good for the game or not?

Mark Bright : The good quality players are good for the game, but if they're no better than English players, it's not benefiting the english game, is it? Zola, Bergkamp, Petit, Ginola, you know, fantastic. Great for the game.

Mcsperrin : Do you think that Q.P.R. can turn things around now that Gerry is back at the helm?

Mark Bright : I saw QPR on Saturday against Blackburn, and it was a good result for QPR, a draw. They're currently 7th from the bottom of the First Division, but hopefully Gerry can take them into the top half of the table.

Julio_Iglasias : Mark do you think the game is getting dirtier or refs are getting stricter?

Mark Bright : The game isn't getting dirtier, and the refs are having to carry out their instructions to the letter of the law. That's why there are more bookings and sendings off. Every time the ref goes out on the pitch, there's an assessor in the stand watching *him*. That's why they have to carry out their instructions so strictly.

CometTheDog : Who does BRIGHTY think behaved worse...Dennis Wise for his unprofessional provocation of Nicky Butt after his tackle, or Butt for his natural reaction?

Mark Bright : Well...both were in the wrong, weren't they. I think Dennis might have pinched Nicky's thigh, and then Nicky reacted by kicking him, but once you kick an opponent, you have to go off.

Mcsperrin : If the opportunity came up and you were offered the job of England manager, would you take it?

Mark Bright thinks. No.
Mark Bright grins
Mark Bright : I've no desire to be a manager. (But I know a man who would).

Joolze : Do you enjoy the early starts for the Big Breakfast?

Mark Bright : Yeah, Joolze, it's only one day a week, but I love it. The question I'm always asked is, 'is it as much fun as it appears to be' and the answer is 'yes it is'.

Julio_Iglasias : What music do you like Brighty.

Mark Bright : I like everything.

Joolze : Do you think Chelsea deserved their 5-0 win yesterday?

Mark Bright : Well they played very well, and definitely deserved a big win. Anybody who beats Man U by 5 must deserve it.

smd : what ambitions do you have now?

Mark Bright : Plenty :)))
Mark Bright keeps schtum

moonbeam : What footballers do you most admire and why?

Mark Bright : Moonbeam....
Mark Bright thinks

Mark Bright : Lemme see. Ian Wright....just because he's..self made. Came into the game late, started playing late and probably exceeding what he thought he'd do, and what most other people thought he'd achieve too. I like Beckham as well. I think he's a fantastic footballer.

asp : who was the hardest player you played against?

Mark Bright thinks
Mark Bright : The hardest? Lots and lots of players, actually... some of the most difficult were probably Des Walker...and any of the Arsenal back four. I only ever scored once against Arsenal in my career:). Maybe twice. Can't remember.

willma : Do you see your televsion career developing further (you were great at the weekend).

Mark Bright : ohh! Thanks willma :) I hope it does, that's the direction I want to go in now.

Mcsperrin : What do you think about Brentford's chances of getting into Div 1 this season with Ron Noades bringing in all these youngsters and non-leaguers. And do you think he'll end up heading back to Palace?

Mark Bright : Heheh. Well. They're doing quite well, Brentford, they're fourth and there's nothing stopping them going all the way. I don't think he'll end up back at the Palace.

Julio_Iglasias : Do you rate Chris Sutton, and is he really worth 10 million.

Mark Bright : I was really pleased he scored yesterday... but no-one is worth 10 million, but yes I think he'll do well this year.

Smess : Can you ever see Oxford Utd in the Premiership?!

Mark Bright chuckles. They've been in the top flight before, but I think it's going to be a long way off for them now. They're still recovering from the Robert Maxwell era.

CometTheDog : If Poland don't loose against Sweden, will they deserve to be in the play offs?

Mark Bright : They will because they'll finish above England. (But we hope Sweden will win!)

ray : Where are you going on holiday?

Mark Bright : Not far :)

willma : What do think of Scotland's chances this week? Will we have to qualify the hard way (again)?

Mark Bright : Scotland... I think they'll win tomorrow... and I think they'll win on Saturday too. They only need one win to qualify for the playoffs.

Rob : If you hadn't been a footballer, what would you have been?

Mark Bright : Before I came into football I was a hydraulic engineer...! For 5 years! I'd probably still be doing that. :)

Julio_Iglasias : Will Peterborough United ever be good under Barry Fry, god bless the Blue Army.

Mark Bright : They've got a lot of young kids playing there now, and attracting quite a bit of attention. But, where are they, they're third in the league so hopefully they'll get promotion this year!

Vixen Van Squixen : Do you think the public opinion of Michael Owen as 'golden boy' is starting to sour?

Mark Bright : Erm.... No. I don't think so. He's still very talented! He's been sent off and booked like everyone else, but in the eyes of the public he's still the Golden Boy.

C4 Chat Ed : Ok, last question folks, Mark has to dash...

asp : How do you keep your eyes so sparkly? Is it natural or do you use eyedrops?

Mark Bright chuckles. N-o-o-o. I always go to bed very early before I do the BB. It helps keep you looking young. :)

C4 Chat Ed : Thanks Mark, hope this has got your holiday off to a good start!

Mcsperrin : SEE YA BRIGHT
willma : thanks for answering my questions! Great to talk to you. Cheers!!!!

Mark Bright : Shall I tell you a secret about Johnny?

C4 Chat Ed : Yes

Mark Bright : He uses hairspray and always wears a vest!
Mark Bright grins.

Mark Bright waves.
