All Back To Mine - Sean Rowley

It was all back to Sean Rowley's chat room after his 4 Music show All Back To Mine on Wednesday 5th August, read on to find out all about his Queen collection...

C4 Chat Ed : Evening Sean

Sean Rowley : Evening all!

C4 Chat Ed : How are you doing?

Sean Rowley : I'm alright :)

C4 Chat Ed : Ok, let's begin

Pogrobolski : Sean - who's had the biggest and best record collection so far?

Sean Rowley : Biggest would be Norman Cook or Daddy G. Best would be... erm that's a difficult one really. They all sort of have their own little things, don't they? The best ones are probably the ones where you turn up and you don't actually know the records you're about to hear.

petal : what's the most embarrasing record you've found so far?

Sean Rowley : I've been asked this before, and my take on it is, obviously this idea has sort of appeared on the Adam and Joe show before, and they thrive on the fact that some of them are embarrassing... but to me, a record is in your collection because you love it you know? It's only gonna be someone else's take that it's embarrassing. I've even been round some people's houses when they've played Queen. Queen rocks.
Sean Rowley grins

dairyboy : What was the first record you ever bought?

Sean Rowley : David Cassidy 'Could it be forever'. And I still stand by that record!!

kenny : which records would you choose if the boot was on the other foot?

Sean Rowley : Aw god! My choice would be dependent on what I was listening to at this very moment, ie, I don't actually believe that you could pin down your favourite records, but current favourite would probably be the Chemical Brothers new album. If you were to ask me for a classic, I'd choose... Chic, 'Good Times'.

petal : Has anyone asked you not to talk about one of their records because they were too embarassed about it?

Sean Rowley : Erm...yeah..:)
Sean Rowley thinks.
Sean Rowley : I can't remember what it was. Hang on. Can't remember. I think that Norman Cook had an embarrassing first record, but he wasn't going to let on to us what it was!

billyx : Sean - what do you think makes the UK music scene so much more consistently vibrant than, say, European output?

Sean Rowley chuckles
Sean Rowley : Gawd! Er, I haven't got a clue! But let's not forget 'Baccarat'.

djchi : who did the carpenters cover a few weeks back was it a dean martin song??

Sean Rowley : No, it wasn't a Carpenters cover, it was a track that Alan McGee chose and he chose a Curtis Mayfield song called 'Make Me Believe in You', which was covered by Patti Jo which is actually available to buy on the All Back To Mine compilation album which comes out in September!

C4 Chat Ed : Ooh plug!

Sean Rowley : But. The Carpenters song mentioned in the text was called 'We've Only Just Begun', which is available on a Curtis live album. Sean Rowley grins

Brian Wilson is God : Is it true that Pete Waterman has a massive collection of guns?

Sean Rowley : Er...well, you're right, Brian Wilson *is* god. Guns I don't know about, but he certainly didn't show me.

Tidyangel : The prog was great tonight, i was wondering if you know anything of a reggae man by the name of Tappa Zukie is he still alive?

Sean Rowley : Er...I haven't got a clue, I'm afraid.

Pogrobolski : Do you collect vinyl yourself?

Sean Rowley : I do, yes. I have done for...oo...25 years.

dairyboy : What's the most embarassing record you've ever bought?

Sean Rowley : This goes back to my thing about if you buy them and believe in them, you stand by them. I will stand by my Queen collection anyday.

Monkman : Have you asked anyone who refused to appear?

Sean Rowley : Yes, we did approach a lot of people to appear on the series, and because we've had to prerecord all shows, no-one really knew what we were trying to do. So we got knocked back by quite a few people. But since the series has been on air, a lot more people have stepped forwards wanting to participate.

Monkman : What happened to that spliff that Daddy G was smoking? Did you get any?

Sean Rowley giggles
Sean Rowley : I had two lugs on it before we left to go back to London, and I was stoned for the remainder of the journey.
Sean Rowley grins

Saytan : who would you most like to have as a guest on the show?

Sean Rowley : Joe Strummer.

BristolCream : Did you do Glasto this year? Any memories?

Sean Rowley : No, my girlfriend did, and she has enough memories for me.

graene : What other artists are coming up?

Sean Rowley : We've got two more shows: next week we're not on, but the following week is Sharleen from Texas, and then the show ends with Brett Anderson from Suede.

Saytan : who d'you reckon would come out on top if there was a huge fight at the brit awards

Sean Rowley grins
Sean Rowley : Out of who?? Morrissey. There ya go.

Pogrobolski : Sean...is the handmade camera look deliberate or was the cameraperson a wee bit tipsy?

Sean Rowley chuckles
Sean Rowley : Um. Deliberate. Let's say.

Joe Public : What future album are you most looking forward to?

Sean Rowley : The All Back To Mine compilation which is released in September.
Sean Rowley smiles

JonW99 : How did you get to be on the cover of What's the Story Morning Glory?

Sean Rowley : I was asked by Noel Gallagher the night before, and I was short of a few bob.
Sean Rowley grins

Jizzo : Is there any reggae artist that you think is taking the genre fowards? Most seem to be churing out the same old s**t

Sean Rowley : I'm really not a big fan of new reggae, so I'm not the person to ask. I'm like, old school.

Nick H : What's the best club you've ever been to?

Sean Rowley : The Heavenly Social.

adamf : Is it true that Sharleen recieves the vast share of all Texas's money because she gets her kit off

Sean Rowley chuckles
Sean Rowley : Er...tune in next show and find out!

Emason : what brand of fags do you smoke and if not why not?

Sean Rowley : What the...?
Sean Rowley laffs
Sean Rowley : Eerm. I've never smoked a cigarette in my life.
Sean Rowley grins

c4 Chat Ed : That's it everyone...thanks Sean....there'll be another chat soon...goodnight!
