Envy & Other Sins recording diary. (week 1)Well... here we are then! I'm currently sitting in the sunny conservatory of Townhouse recording studios in glamorous London town! So far, to be honest, this year has been a bit of a blur. For those of you who aren't familiar with our recent history we were lucky enough to be voted the winners of mobileAct unsigned on December 23. This has meant that we have been transformed from hapless unsigned idiots into professional musicians - brilliant!
The first part of this transformation has been going into the studio to record our debut album with legendary producer Danton Supple (he made me put the 'legendary' bit in). I write to you at the end of the first week of that process and I can tell you exclusively that... the drums are done! Woohoo, no more work for me. Everything sounds great and working with Danton and Smit (the engineer) is an absolute breeze. They are both really great at finding the exact point that they can push you to before you crack and start to go a bit mental. Having said that, they are about to start putting the bass down and that may be tricky even for men of their calibre...
The slightly bizarre part of all this is that our progress through these exciting and stressful times is being charted by a mobileAct camera crew. The lovely Benny and Jake have been filming everything we've been up to for a follow up show which is to be shown on C4 at the beginning of March. I feel for them, we are RUBBISH at interviews.
Anyway, I'd best go, I've got lunch to deal with. It's a lot tougher than I expected this being a full time musician lark!
Jim.
