FourDocs on 3MW - The winners

Charlie Phillips   18 January 2008, 4:51 PM

In case you missed them, or want to watch them again, which were the FourDocs we chose for the 3MW week just gone? It was these excellent and very unique four films:

Garage Wars

Monday 21st January - The Garage Wars - Filmmaker - Richard Nockles. A middle-class, middle-aged couple disagree over the state of their garage. A reminder of all our parents, and what we're going to grow into. A simple, instantly recognisable real story with great wit and performance.

A Fairlie Film

Tuesday 22nd January - A Fairlie Film - Filmmaker - Anna Edwards. An eldery couple rewatch cine footage of themselves from the 1930s, performing a play. Totally spellbinding, totally archive and proof that brilliant homemade movies existed way before the likes of FourDocs. A real joy, whilst conveying the melancholy of lost youth.

One Last Journey

Wednesday 23rd January - One Last Journey - Filmmaker - Brian Dacal. A clever, fun and thought-provoking FourDoc in which a car condemned to scrap is taken to Morocco for one last hurrah. A critique of our throwaway culture and also a really great ride

Stranger

Thursday 24th January - Stranger - Filmmakers - Clarrie Pope and Tanya Singh. A remarkable documentary equivalent of the parlour game Consequences. A group of Eighties babies recount their rebellions against being told not to speak to strangers, their words and images are cut up and a slippery meta-story emerges.

We hope you'll agree that they all take both an intelligent and deeply fun approach to both documentary and storytelling, and best of all, feel entirely original and unlike pretty much everything else on TV.
Well done all of you that we chose! And those that we didn't choose for this slot, first of all What do you think? and secondly, we'll be announcing the next theme for the next slot (which will be in April) very soon, so start your next doc!

It's good to know...

... we've teamed up with The Co-operative for this competition. We have a team of experts ready to watch the films, and they will choose which one will win a cash prize of £2,000, which ones get shown to a Channel4 Commissioning Editor, and which ones have the chance to be shown on Channel 4 itself on their 3 Minute Wonder strand.
