Margate Rocks is a really ace arts festival in one of my favourite places in the whole world, Margate, on a mysterious part of the Kent Coast called the Isle of Thanet. The fest takes place in the first week and a half of May, on the theme of art and ecology, and we're really involved with getting local people making and watching docs as a part of it.

There'll be regular updates on FourDocs about MR but the first thing to tell you about is that we've teamed up with Turner Contemporary to invite filmmakers to take part in a very special documentary programme at the MR festival.

Submissions are invited of documentaries under 5 minutes long on the theme of 'Drift'. A FREE masterclass in 'Drift' filmmaking, led by local filmmaker Simon Welsford, director of critically acclaimed film, Jetsam, has been especially set up to help you out. Reserve your place for the workshop on Saturday March 8th in Margate and get an intensive guide to all aspects of making innovative art documentaries.

From thinking of ideas to shooting to editing, you will be shown through the motions. You will then have 2 months to go and make your doc before it's screened at the Festival by a bicycle powered cinema!

And what do we mean by 'Drift' doc-making? We mean drifting minds, drifting sea objects, drift wood on the beach, drift of populations...you get the idea?
