Documentary Films For Change workshop

Becca Frankel   17 April 2008, 5:09 PM

c

They are looking for a maximum of 10 filmmakers with ambitious social issue documentary films that tell a story and have the capacity to ignite change  locally, regionally and globally.  Run over Friday the 6th - Sunday the 8th June inclusive, the weekend is designed to help you link content and storytelling, to
  • Identify potential strategic partners i.e. charities, NGO's and brands
  • Create an audience engagement plan
  • Devise press strategies
  • Raise awareness of the issues
  • Form an outreach strategy specific to your film       to MAKE YOUR FILM MATTER

The UK Films For Change workshop will be run by Robert West and Judith Helfand, the founders of Working Films. They are without question one of the leaders in this field, masterminding the campaigns behind feature documentaries such as "Two Towns of Jasper", Sundance Award winning  "Blue Vinyl" and the Emmy Award winning "The Ghosts of Abu Ghraib". The projects they have worked on have resulted in significant shifts in the marketplace, public and political opinion.

HOW TO APPLY

They are looking for film projects of a social justice or campaigning nature already in development, production or post-production.  With your application you need to submit a trailer and a selection of rushes. If the film is near completed you should send in the rough cut. Films that already have commercial or third sector partners involved with the film will be of key interest.

DEADLINE Friday April 25th 2008

It's good to know...

... we've teamed up with The Co-operative for this competition. We have a team of experts ready to watch the films, and they will choose which one will win a cash prize of £2,000, which ones get shown to a Channel4 Commissioning Editor, and which ones have the chance to be shown on Channel 4 itself on their 3 Minute Wonder strand.
