Coens at the 65th Venice International Film Festival

Ali Catterall   30 July 2008, 5:09 PM

The world premiere of the Coen brothers' Burn After Reading, starring George Clooney, is taking place at the 65th Venice Film Festival, which runs from August 27 to September 6

Also in the line-up are Jonathan Demme's Rachel Getting Married, starring Debra Winger, Darren Aronofsky's The Wrestler, starring Mickey Rourke, and Kathryn Bigelow's The Hurt Locker, starring Ralph Fiennes and Guy Pearce. However, this year's festival is also notable for featuring fewer Hollywood contenders than before, a consequence of the 100-day film and television writers strike that ended in February.

Heading the jury to decide who will win the coveted Golden Lion is celebrated German director Wim Wenders. Said Festival director Marco Muller, "Cinema is also entertainment, and this year, we try to remember that."
