Tae Kwon Do and ants.

Tomas Leach   3 January 2007, 9:40 AM

A dog we just passed had most of his neck torn away. In front of the church I see why as a pack of 15 dogs have the most brutal fight.

Ben comes back from shooting storm sequences. He lines up a shot and steps in an ants nest. In flip flops.
I lift the camera out and one bites me. I have to try hard not to cry. Ben is bitten about 50 times. He handles it with aplomb.

We're planning on going to visit the Tae Kwon Do school we passed earlier. I'd really like to do a sports film here. Something that shows that the massive distances here are just part of everyday life. That scale is something different here.

The school is a beautiful building. A washed greeny-blue colour that is so affected by all the rain here (warm rain, though) and has great lettering.

It's hard to get over the rejection by the El Dorado guy the other day. All the other stories are starting to seem a little flat in comparison and the pressure to get one story here in Barcelas (after we've travelled 3 days to get here) is weighing on me. I only truly feel confidant about Jose's story, so we need to shoot 4 more from here on in, I would say.

Looking out from Barcelas, past the perfect beach, you can see across miles of jungle canopy. Every night, lightening cracks above it, lighting up areas. It's stunning.

It's good to know...

... we've teamed up with The Co-operative for this competition. We have a team of experts ready to watch the films, and they will choose which one will win a cash prize of £2,000, which ones get shown to a Channel4 Commissioning Editor, and which ones have the chance to be shown on Channel 4 itself on their 3 Minute Wonder strand.
