Porto Velho.

Most of the morning is spent dithering; sorting out car rental, bank, breakfast etc... And looking for the mythical drink Acai, which we fail to find. It's sunday and I think that we'll just be travelling today. I don't hold out much hope for finding a film.

3 hours out of Porto Velho we approach Ariquemes. There's a sign for a rodeo so we take a detour.
It's quite a big event. The host ranch is packed with an Arena, stands, bars and music. Young kids lassooing a wooden horse. The owners children ride out and try and lassoo a running cow. Most fail.
It's too commercial here. No real character that we could find in the time we have.

An hour furthur along the main road and we turn off to Machadinha D'Oeste. After 40km the road turns to dirt track. We bump along as it grows dark. It's gone 9pm when we arrive in town. We check into single rooms (a treat for us) and go and eat in the main square of this simply laid out town.
