And now, it's back, for a synapse-tweaking seventh series of unexpected action. But this time, with celebrities.
In this seventh and final series the celebrity housemates may think they know what's coming but for them 2010 will begin with some of the most unpredictable and unforgettable few weeks of their lives. This is no holiday camp for the pampered personalities; Celebrity Big Brother won't be leaving the limelight quietly.
With every move and murmur captured by the cameras 24 hours a day, the new intake of famous faces will have to cope with being stripped of the trappings of a showbiz life for a communal bedroom, a shared bathroom and absolutely no eyeliner.
One housemate will leave the House each week by a process of housemate nomination and public voting - until the final week. Then a public vote picks a winner. Queen or King? You decide.
Will they flourish or flounder at the series of tasks and challenges Big Brother sets them during their stay in the House and, more importantly, how will they react to each other? Will firm friendships blossom or will the experience spark some momentous showbiz spats? Was Sartre right when he coined the term ‘hell is other people'?
