When did Channel 4 start broadcasting and what was the first programme?
Channel 4 launched on 2 November 1982 at 4.45pm. We are a public service broadcaster, funded entirely from commercial revenue. The first programme that went out on the Channel was Countdown hosted by Richard Whiteley and Carol Vorderman. The first advertisement was for Vauxhall cars.
