About Channel 4
|

4 Ventures is the holding company for all Channel 4's businesses outside of the main Channel. Set up as the commercial arm of Channel 4, 4 Ventures mission is to generate additional revenues for the main channel to help increase Channel 4's investment in its programming budget. It is organised into four divisions:
4 Channels
4 Rights
4 Learning and
4 Services
Each division comprises a number of commercial businesses set up to reinforce and supplement the existing ad sales economic model that funds Channel 4.
The creation of 4 Ventures in 2001 was part of Channel 4's strategy to transform itself from a single television channel into a multimedia business. This strategy was developed in response to the rapid spread of digital technology which was transforming the UK Broadcasting landscape and opening up new ways for viewers to access content.
It is recognised that for the Channel 4 brand to remain as visible and relevant in the next ten years as it is now Channel 4 must embrace the opportunities presented by digital television, interactivity, broadband and the Internet. 4 Ventures enables Channel 4 to achieve this by building growing businesses that complement the core Channel 4 brand and generate revenue outside of the existing ad sales revenue model.
Consolidating the 4 Ventures commercial business activities into one company allows them to be managed more effectively and efficiently. This ensures that 4 Ventures drives a growth strategy across all its businesses that successfully results in them generating revenue for Channel 4 helping to alleviate the competitive pressures of the digital era on Channel 4's ability to invest in programmes.
