about 4 Ventures

FilmFour

FilmFour Channel was launched in November 1998 with the objectives of enhancing and extending Channel 4's reputation as a film and programme maker in the multi-channel universe and delivering a financial return to the Corporation.

Positioned as 'The Best of Modern Independent Cinema', the channel screens over 100 different films a month from the UK, the US and the rest of the world. The channel is a 'premium' subscription service available to Sky, Telewest and NTL digital subscribers for a monthly subscription of £6 per month (£7 on Sky). FilmFour is the largest independent (non Sky) premium service in multi-channel.

The service comprises 3 Channels; FilmFour, FilmFour +1 and FilmFour Weekly. (Only the core service is available on Telewest, analogue and digital and NTL analogue).

FilmFour - 6pm to 6am

The Film Four Channel's main objective is to act as an 'editor of choice'. Programmed and packaged on a monthly basis, films are scheduled in strips and zones (at 6pm, 8pm 10pm etc) to aid navigation. Each month, its main season runs every night at 10pm, with a creative selection of 10 to 13 films supporting themes such as 'Crime Spree', 'Midsummer Night Screams', 'British Film Month', ' A Twist in the Tale' etc. Supporting the monthly season is The Magic Hour at 6pm, a selection of major classics, timeless favourites and familiar faces that get the evening off to an entertaining start. At midnight we host Extreme cinema - a home for wayward films like Caligula, Natural Born Killers, A Clockwork Orange and Sex & Lucia. These are films that have tested the boundaries of what's acceptable - often controversial, always challenging.

FilmFour +1 - 7pm to 7am

The +1 service is a straight one-hour timeshift of the core channel. With FilmFour and the +1 service, a film starts on the hour, every hour, thus maximising viewers' chances of seeing the films they want.

FilmFour Weekly - 'Because some films are too good to miss'

FilmFour Weekly is an innovative new service which was launched in May 2003. Appealing to multichannel viewers with limited time and overwhelming choice the Weekly schedule changes once a week, much like a cinema. We select three films per week which play each night at 8pm, 10pm and 12pm.
