E4
E4, the digital entertainment channel from Channel 4, launched in January 2001 with key objectives of building and maximising the Corporation's multi-channel share by targeting a core audience of 16-34 year olds; enhancing C4's reputation for innovation; and delivering a financial return. It is currently ahead on all projections and is now the second most watched digital entertainment channel amongst 16-34 year olds.
Channel Offering
The channel features a combination of acquired programmes and originations; both from the UK, US and other countries.
Acquired Programmes: New series of the best American shows including Friends, ER, Smallville, Dawsons Creek, Six Feet Under, The West Wing and The Sopranos all premiered on E4 under the "Brand New" banner. Other US shows include Sex and The City and Joe Millionaire.
Originations: E4 is committed to exploring new programme ideas in comedy and factual entertainment and has commissioned a host of original shows, many of which have subsequently aired on Channel 4. These include award-winning shows such as Banzai and Your Face or Mine?, Infamous Fives, 5 Go Dating, and the highly acclaimed teen drama As If.
Cross Platform Event Programming
E4 has pioneered cross-platform initiatives such as the hugely successful Big Brother and The Salon streaming. It also provides spin-off support programming such as Big Brother's Little Brother. The channel has been at the forefront in developing interactive applications for shows such as Big Brother, while Banzai was the UK's first interactive comedy series.
Repeats
E4 offers viewers another chance to see key Channel 4 programmes throughout the week as well as characterising repeats with themed events, such as the hugely popular 'Second Chance Sunday'.
E4 has its own dedicated staff of Commissioning Editors, Schedulers and Press & Marketing personnel but also draws on people from Channel 4 Departments for Business Affairs, Acquisitions and Strategy.
