MELT
A Channel 4 supported initiative aimed at creative and technical talent. It offers awards for innovative content proposals for new and emerging digital platform ideas and is looking to exploit the creative possibilities of platforms like 3G mobiles, games consoles and iTV.
The initiative is a three year pilot currently operating in South Yorkshire - a largely under-represented area as far as broadcast presence goes, but with a strong creative industry potential.
The scheme is therefore open to applicants based in South Yorkshire or talent outside Yorkshire, but able to partner up with a South Yorkshire partner. Melt has a database of some of the leading creative companies for you to potentially partner with in the area. You may know of, or already be working with others.
Melt is a programme of The Culture Company working with the Channel 4, BBC, Orange, PACT and Screen Yorkshire and is funded by Yorkshire Forward, Objective 1 South Yorkshire and Arts Council England.
What you get:
Selected proposals are given Research and Development awards of up to £50,000 and may be provided with a mentoring team.
Then what?
At the end of the scheme, the resulting demonstration models, prototypes or pilots are re-presented to partners, content commissioners and producers with the potential for full production commissioning.
