DIRECTORS NEEDED
Details
The Bunbury Banter Theatre Company's main work is producing ongoing short radio plays in series form, which play on various radio stations and internet sites.
The length of the plays are a key selling point as, being no longer than 20mins each, they can squeeze into the more commercial radio stations who wouldn't usually touch radio drama and in doing so reach those who also don't listen to audio drama.
Another key point is the style of our plays. Some call it "fringe radio" but that is not meant as a derogatory term, it is simply that they have an edginess and rawness about them not usually heard on the radio. This style is produced by a very large team of creative people who are all experts in their fields and really been achieved by the process we use to produce the plays.
Our directors need to work with us to achieve this and get the best out of each series. We work as creative producers and although we wouldn't involve ourselves in directing there are other areas such as editing which we are involved in. We talk through our process with all those who are short-listed, so we will explain further then.
We are specifically looking for directors who are interested in working with us on future series towards the end of this year and into the New Year.
Although the plays are not currently paid they are being sold and therefore subject to profit share and other than a brilliant day we also promise to keep everyone suitably fed and watered!
While radio or voiceover experience is a bonus it is not necessarily required, a willingness to work hard and have fun is far more important. If you are interested in directing for us, please email Phil with your contact number, email, CV and give us your thoughts on the questions below.
a) "The stage of radio is darkness and silence, the darkness of the listener's skull. On it the dramatist can bring anyone or anything without the trouble and expense of a scenic artist. .... The process of building it is simple; the words are spoken, and we become designers, producers, scene shifters, and the theatre itself"- Frances Gray - What are your thoughts on the above quote? What does it make you think and/or feel?
b) What is radio drama to you and how would you use the medium to its full potential?
