Comedy Police Review

Comedy Central

The Suspect: Comedy Central, Liverpool

Comedy Police Officer Withatwist investigated the comedy night at Comedy Central at Baby Blue, Liverpool. Here's his report:

"My first ever visit to a comedy gig coincided with a friends 40th Birthday. The venue was at the Baby Blue at Liverpool's Albert Dock on Friday night. Having met the welcoming staff we were duly notified that as we had not been before a few rules needed to be adhered to. By all accounts shouting was not permitted, nor talking whilst the acts were on. When I lied to the girl on the door that I suffered from Tourettes, much to her embarrassment and my friend's amusement this managed to lightened the air of trepidation I was feeling.

"The club was full to capacity with both Hen And Stag parties looking to be entertained. A slight hitch however was when the sound system failed which meant a delay of 30 minutes. This was rectified and rather than spoil the evening it meant the audience was more than eager for the show to start.

"The MC for the evening was R David. I can honestly state that I haven't laughed so much in ages. He was both fast paced and funny, soon having audience eating from his hands with his observational wit. His adept ability to counteract hecklers comments with quick one-liners was shear brilliance to say the least.

"First up was New Zealand comic Sully O'Sullivan. This comedian with his slow Antipodean's drawl held the audiences attention from the outset. After taking an inflatable sheep from the audience when he came on stage, the laughs were soon coming thick and fast. He began by drawing on his countrymen's close sexual connection with their herbivore friends. Mr O'Sullivan threw in a wide range of subject matter that had the audience showing their appreciation with fits of laughter and applause.

"Next up on stage was Manchester comedian Vince Atta, whose slightly anarchic style faltered halfway in to his act due to a very irritating female heckler who was neither funny nor clever. This seemed to put the comic of his stride a bit but he did manage to gain control later on towards the end of his set. Last but not lease was Liverpool born Brendan Riley who expertly sewed up the evening as well as the audience with his speedy rapport and excellent comic talent. He is a comic I would most definitely go and see again.

"The evening was a resounding success due to its eclectic mix of comic talent and subject matter. I would whole-heartedly recommend anyone to attend this venue for a great night of entertainment."
