Rob Newman’s ‘History of the World Backwards’ Review

4Laughs-a-day

On the beat today is Comedy Police Officer Hoskinator following up Experimental Tyres' review, with his version of events for Rob Newman's 'History of the World Backwards' (Tuesdays 10pm BBC Four):

"I would first like to add I was looking forward of seeing the show because I remember Rob Newman from the Mary White house experience but have seen little of him since then."

"This is a more thoughtful comedy than manner others on TV at the moment. The idea of famous people living and getting older, but going backwards in time. This has lots of opportunity for comedy, like Nelson Mandela coming out of prison a political activist, people using less and less oil and going back to farming, Woman losing the vote etc..

"I like the production of the show, the art, the music, the look and feel are all excellent. The idea is good, Rob Newman is a funny guy but although the show is interesting and amusing it is not laugh out loud funny. It is more of chuckle here and there, a few smiles and the occasional loud laugh. One of the reasons for this is because some of the sketches are pretty weak, I get the feeling stretching the idea to six episodes has taken its toll on the quality of some it. This is not to say I'm not enjoying it, I find the show very interesting and am always wondering what part of history/life will be looked at next but all I'm saying is some people won't like it, I have enjoyed each subsequent episode more than the previous episode, this maybe due to the fact I am getting into the rhythm of the series."
