The Boosh is Back!

4Laughs-a -Day

It couldn't get any better for us at 4Laughs, not only is the Mighty Boosh returning to our screens at 10.30pm on Thursday nights from 15th November on BBC3, but Noel Fielding is to fill in as team captain on 'Nevermind the Buzzcocks.' It's Booshtastic!

...big name comedy acts whip out their DVDs! Peter Kay is risking a backlash from fans by releasing a compilation DVD of his stage show. Disgruntled fans have aired their views about the apparent 'cashing in' of Kay calling his actions 'absolutely shameless.'

A huge well done (with balloons and streamers) is due for our very own 4Laughs contributors ShoePie76 and Dannyjb. They were both finalists in the $500 prize Halloween Video Competition on MySpace! with their joint animation entry 'Death of Innocence.'

Rob Newman's 'History of the World Backwards' BBC 4

4Laughs-a-day

Patrolling down comedy lane is ExperimentalTyres reviewing Rob Newman's new TV show 'History of the World Backwards':

"It was 1990 and a show called "The Mary Whitehouse Experience" hit our screens and it was fun. I used something called a video recorder unit to copy it onto a video cassette. I even broke off the hallowed write protect strip. It starred the mousey-faced one with his mate and the Jewish guy with his mate. The Jewish guy went on to have hit shows with another mate. So what happened to the Jewish guy's first mate? You know the cheeky chap with long flowing locks? Well he wrote a few books, did a few low profile gigs... not sure really.

"Well he's back on our screens now! His hair is a bit thinner and unfortunately the comedy is completely baron. The idea of Rob's new show is that time is going backwards but people get older and generally things are topsy-turvy or something. There is effectively one joke, the confused premise of the show, which doesn't work and the script which fuels this idea is weak throughout. Apparently the show runs at just over 20 topsy-turvy, crazy minutes, of which I managed to endure about 15 before looking for something more amusing to do like shooting my man-eggs with a nail gun.

"This is unfortunately yet another example of lazy BBC commissioning. Who is it? Jennifer Saunders? Sure, carte blanche, it' BOUND to be funny. They know the name, we know the name... this guy once played in one of the biggest comedy gigs ever, you know?... but the script is poor... yeah, but he once said "That's you that is" and people did laugh.

"If only established comedians or those who have had past success were treated with the same alleged scrutiny over script writing as people trying to break onto the scene. How about this for a topsy-turvy idea, the Beeb pays ME for my TV license?"
