Comedy CV
Tim set up Triffic Films in 1989 after graduating with an animation degree from West Surrey College of Art & Design. This was followed in 2001 by Baby Cow Animation, in collaboration with Steve Coogan and Henry Normal. It was a busy year, also marked by another venture, 2DTV, the award winning topical sketch show.
Triffic produce animation and graphics primarily for broadcast comedy.
Triffic credits include:
Have I Got News For You
The Catherine Tate Show
Ideal
Coogan's Run
Gimme, Gimme, Gimme
The Sketch Show
George Michael music promo 'Shoot the Dog'
Baby Cow Animation credits:
I'm Not an Animal
Brain Candy
Whine Gums
From Bard to Verse
Career Highs:
There are a couple of best bits. When we did 'I'm Not An Animal' with Peter Baynham, the first episode of that going out was a pretty proud moment. There was so many stumbling blocks in terms of getting that thing made and when it went to air I was very chuffed.
The other thing in terms of 'highs' is when we produced the topical sketch show 2D TV which went out on ITV1. There were so many people who said it couldn't be done. And when it went out on ITV, they stuck it on after Liverpool were in the European Cup and we got a ridiculous number of viewers. That was a pretty proud moment - so those two things so far.
Career lows:
Getting work is the hardest thing. It's always been a struggle to keep the work coming in and when you've got a studio of people, it's a bit of pressure to keep people in employment. That's without doubt the hardest bit.
Animation favourites:
Matthew Walker: 'Astronauts'
Sam Morrisson: 'Balls'
Gaelle Dennis: 'City Paradise'
The other things I can't help but admire are the Dreamworks and Pixar output.
Words of Advice for 4Laughs animators:
I'm quite old-fashioned in that I like to see someone's drawing ability. In terms of a show-reel, I like to see a cross-section of ability, from line tests and and traditional works in progress to the finished film.
So we encourage people to keep up with their life drawing. If you're a musician you can get away with not knowing about chords, but if you've got those techniques at your finger-tips they allow you to deal with your music in a better way. It's the same with animation. If you can draw and express yourself in your sketch book, those things will be useful in terms of your animation.
