After: From the old bedroom to streamlined contemporary kitchen, how have they made it work?

The Layout

The units wrap round the walls, roughly in an F-shape to create an enormous amount of work space and storage. The splashbacks have been kept to a minimum of stainless steel on matt-painted walls to give the room a more relaxed feel, while huge double ovens emphasise that this is a real cook's kitchen. For more on planning a kitchen, see our guide.

The Storage

The far end of the kitchen, past the cookers and kitchen island, is a large open shelving area, on which family photos and accessories are displayed. Browse our gallery of kitchen storage ideas for advice and inspiration.

The Live In Kitchen Diner

Black leather seating beyond helps this room be as sociable as possible. Beyond the kitchen island and fridge, and opposite the hob, is a formal dining space. The dark, bold design of the wallpaper makes the feature wall advance visually into the room, making the space seem more intimate, while the low level lighting highlights the dining table when night falls.
